Hey Ira, thanks for that post. I hate having "feuds" on this site. Just dumb. I understand better where you're coming from; I hope you can see why I might feel how I feel. I think that's all we can ask of each other.

Never thought you were including me in the young studs stuff. Not young anymore, and I've never been a stud. Ask my wife.

I've done 72-hour bar crawls before, big boy. Everything's dumb as shit afterward. You're left contemplating the very skin on your fingertips, and why. The whirlwind of a kaleidoscopic hangover produces a great many questions.

It's fine, you don't need to agree. I do know there are a lot of people here who are tired of the payless PR act for the young studs who have never shown the stylistic or reporting chops a Le Batard has. Not that anyone would give a rat's ass, but I never once have supported a big-name journalist on this board. Le Batard is my first, because I find his writing compelling. Your mileage may vary. You might have your personal grievances. But that has nothing to do with anything else.

Is he shady? I don't know. I don't think you do either, unless you have verifiable proof otherwise. And you don't.

 

Never done 72-hour bear crawls before (though I have wolfed down three or four bear claws on occasion), but I'm with ya on Le Batard. The guy might be a prick, he might be shady (though I agreee that hasn't been determined), but he can write his ass off. In a different league than many of the board faves.

 

From my understanding, it's now inbounds for people (because they use their own names) to discredit others circumstantially. That makes it right. That draws no flag. As long as we understand each other. Just wanted to get that straight.

It doesn't sit right with me either ... especially when there's no proof of anything. But I ain't fighting that fight any more. Tired of being labeled sanctimonious.

Besides, I think Jones' follow-up explanations are pretty fair. He was pissed. He vented. Maybe next time he won't ... or maybe he will.

At the end of the day, this is just a message board. If someone read Jones' report of that incident and decided on the merits of that statement alone that Le Batard is a bad person, then I don't think it really matters what they think.

I'd like to think most people realize there are two (or more) sides to a story, and even the damning side in this case isn't all that damning.

 

At the end of the day, yes, it's a message board. And at the end of the day, it's a message board that has affected and blighted people's careers and how they are perceived by their peers. Don't think so? Ask around.

People like the aforementioned use their own names because they have nothing to lose. They couldn't be fired or laid off by a blowtorch and they know it. That's to their credit. But there's no need to involve a girlfriend (and a grandmother, too) on the fucking flimsiest of evidence just to take an oblique shot at someone who was competing with you for a story. Better left for the bar, not a message board topic read by 2,000+ people.

It's not my fight either, Ira, I just think it's bullshit, and it's why a lot of people think this site is bullshit. I'm dropping the flag and I'm gone.
