    well the muscle relaxer the doc gave me makes everything feel so much better. My boss gave me the night off so I was happy with that. Doc says it doesn't seem torn, just a severe pull. I need to call back Friday to update my status. If it hasn't healed any by then it's time for an ultra sound.

    Thanks for asking. I appreciate it.

    Some good advice I read on weight loss today from Rush Limbaugh:

    "What have I told you about diet and exercise? Exercise is irrelevant…. “How do you know all this?” One of the reasons I know what I know is that I know liberals, and I know liberals lie, and if Michelle Obama’s gonna be out there ripping into “food desserts” and saying, “This is why people are fat,” I know it’s not true."

    77? Holy crap! I gained 60 one year, but I was 14 and also grew 7 inches that year.

    How did that happen? New job? First child?

    I think I put on about 40-50 one year. A lot of it was because I had a very, very all-consuming story I had to follow for several months, and I wasn't mature enough yet to compartmentalize my life and keep from letting everything else go. All that weight is gone now, though, plus about 15 more pounds. That was a big-time wake-up call.

    Weighed in at 154 this morning. Weighed 185 on Feb. 7. I looked it up. Weighed 214 on Jan. 1, 2004.

    Resting heart rate this morning: 58.

    Still have some belly flab and booby flab, but hopefully it will eventually melt away as long as I keep hitting the gym as hard as I have been.

    The point: You can all do it. You just have to be willing to work hard enough.

    I started my "Lifestyle Adjustment" at the end of last basketball season and over the course of the summer, dropped 65 pounds and went through several layers of clothes that had been just sitting in my closet.

    I did it by totally changing my eating habits and by working out at least five times a week. It felt good all summer long and I had one of my best summers ever.

    With the start of school. . . and a busier work schedule. . . I changed my goal to simply not gain any weight back, believing that even though I probably wouldn't be able to work out as much, that by simply sticking to my better eating habits (Wendy's stock must be down because of it), I could keep the weight I lost from coming back.

    Weighed myself today, almost three months after the start of school, and I am down another two pounds. With the start of basketball, comes the hard part. . . longer hours, more travel and more temptation.

    Well, the most treacherous time of the year started a couple days ago. I certainly didn't come out of the holiday unscathed. Gonna be a very, very welcome trip back to the gym this morning.

    I bought a new pair of pants last night and for the first time since 1977 or so, they did NOT come from the Plus Size department. Felt very, very good. :)

    First time listener, first time poster (at least on this thread).
    On my birthday in late September I went to the doctor and she called me obese. Even though I looked OK at 5-8 and 195 pounds, my BMI was a touch over 29. I still think BMI is a bad indicator for several reasons, but whatever. I got pissed off and started playing basketball a couple times a week.
    When the weather and time changed, I got a gym membership and hit the pool. Now I swim three times a week. Did 3,000 yards today, which has more or less become my standard workout. Felt like crap the whole way today, but glad I plowed through it.
    Weighed myself and feel comfortable enough now to say I've officially lost 20 pounds in a little less than three months.
    According to the stupid BMI chart, I shouldn't weigh more than 164 pounds. Screw that. I could barely stay there that 10 years ago when I played basketball four hours a day, four times a week. If I can lose maybe five more pounds I'll be happy, but I think I'm on the way.

    Now, a problem. I think I'm getting turf toe from swimming. I've started calling it "aqua toe." When I make a turn and push off the wall, I have a habit of pushing off with my big toe. Both the left and right toe have been aching a lot, especially when I walk barefoot or across a hard floor, or just step on something awkwardly.
    I know the only real cure is rest, but I don't want to lay off the workouts for three weeks to let it heal. I'm afraid a lot of the progress I've made will be lost. So does anybody have any experience with this? Any suggestions on how to deal with it or at least make it bearable?

    Don't sell yourself short, though. I thought that 169 was my absolute floor. I dipped under 170 a few years ago after months and months of rigorous running and other cardio. I'm talking two-hour workouts, several times a week sometimes.

    This morning, I weighed in at 153, with a 33.25-inch waist. Still about an inch and a half to go on the waist, and I imagine I may drop into the 140s before the weight starts coming back on as muscle (I've added weights to my routine in the last few weeks).

    Point is that you'd be amazed what you're capable of if you just keep pushing. Sounds like you plan to, though, and if more weight comes off, then that's just a bonus.

    Nice work. You should be proud as hell. Twenty pounds is a tremendous accomplishment when it's so easy to just screw it and let it go.
