You should eat fruits and vegetables. You get all the nutrients and fiber you need from eating them, and they are filling and keep you from eating foods that are not as good for you.

If you want something to drink. ... try water. With an occasional beer, if it makes you happy. :)

The diet Lemonade-Iced Tea does not have aspartame. Most of the other diet snapples do, which is unfortunate.

As someone who used to drink a ton of soda, I do need to drink something other than water. My favorites are the aforementioned Diet Half 'n Half Snapple, but my favorite is Fuji Apple Pear Lifewater. Holy shit is that stuff good, and also no Aspartame.

I blame my first set of kidney stones on my then 3-or-4-a-day Diet Peach Snapple addiction, fwiw.

  4. Re-kicking this thread to see how everyone's been doing this week!

Lately, I've been trying to eat more of my calories/protein/points/what have you for breakfast and lunch, so I don't eat as much for dinner and try not to make my body have to work as much in sleep mode. Maybe it's bullshit and I just broke off a mini-plateau, but my scale is saying it's working. I just like the idea of giving my awake body more time to burn things and leaving the sleeping form to just do maintenance instead of really hard work.

Greek yogurt has been pretty good to me. Heavy in protein, tastes quite nice and is a break from the old "granola/fruit" routine. Does anyone have a certain brand or type they like? I'm trying to find new ones slowly but surely, and would appreciate anyone's knowledge on the subject!

I had wanted some kind of workout equipment for my apartment on days when I felt like I wasn't going to want to go to the track, so I started looking for a stationary bike. Found one at a second-hand store for $14, and I love it. Little rattly, little squeaky when I put the mileage counter in, but it's overall a great addition. It's especially good for when I want to watch a football game but know I need to workout. I've gotten to where I pedal slowly (maybe a tad above walking pace) until a play starts, then I accelerate as hard as I can until the play ends. Good way to burst through things and not deprive myself of a workout or the Texans.

And on the number front — because apparently that matters too — I'm 259.4 as of this morning. Still not where I want to be, but I'm definitely healthier, look better and know more about what I'm consuming and what it does to me. Isn't that the main point?

WW, we have a treadmill at home, but I find that I'm enjoying walking outside more. There's a big municipal park about 25 minutes from my place, and I go there four days a week and walk their 1.5-mile loop. Get some good earphones, plug in music, sports talk, whatever you want, and it's good variety. You can people-watch, you see "goals" ahead of you to reach, and you can look back and be impressed with yourself at how far you've walked. :)

On another front, I've found a Sobe Lifewater that I really love -- they have Pacific Coconut. It's 80 calories a bottle, but I figure I can afford that. It is almost like drinking coconut milk, if you like that. And it really does give you a nice, mellow feeling when you have one.

P.S. Dropped below 300 earlier this week for the first time in about 25 years. It was an emotional moment.

So great to hear both your success stories. Congrats!!!

  7. Congrats on being below 300! Yeah, that was one of those "holy crap" moments for me too.

As for the outside walking, I get that, but we only really have our one park loop. eventually I'll go back.

I'll have to look into the Lifewater. Thanks for the tip!

Congrats to you, too. As much as we used to get sick of people saying, "you'll feel better if you lose weight, you'll feel better" ... well, yeah. You feel better. ;)

Glad everyone is having success. I'm sitting between 205-210, which seems to be where I'm stuck at. I want to lose some more (maybe 10-15 pounds, if that much), but I'm finding it hard to lose much more than that.

  10. I'm with you, Waffle. Got a stationary bike two years ago and now I hardly watch a ballgame without climbing on.

Not really, I'll get down to between 200 and 205, then go back up again to between 205-210. I weighed 205.6 this morning. My problem is that I'm hungry all the time and when I do eat, I probably overeat to make up for it. Wish I could reach a happy medium.
