I loved PS&V, but its modest sale had NOTHING to do with its merits, I believe . . . but with the simple fact that the outside
world isn't nearly as fascinated with us as we are.

Have a couple of non-biz friends who're fascinated with what I do, but we'd still be buds if I weren't in the biz.

  2. Ok, this is a cheap self-plug, but so be it. ...

My third book, "Where Football is King: A History of the SEC," will be hitting stores in a couple of weeks. I just saw a copy, and I have to say I really like the look of it (of course, I'm incredibly biased, but I really am pleased). If anyone's curious, I'll have it with me at this week's SEC Media Days.

The feedback remains great on "No Time Outs," and again, you all have my thanks.

Chris, my compliments. Bought the book, enjoyed it, sending it on to a colleague. Good luck with the next one.

Damn, Chris - you put out two books within six months and we'll start expecting it all the time ;D

    good luck with this book

  5. Ok, I have to share this with you all ...

The book cover to No Time Outs, which initially I didn't like because it promoted all the stereotypes that I was trying to squash (I wanted a photo of all my credentials), just won second prize in the Washington D.C. Book Publishers Association design awards for best cover.

    Shows what I know.

Just ordered my copy on half.com for 75 cents. The cover alone is worth it.

I picked this up right after it came out last summer. It was definitely a good summertime read with plenty of anecdotes and advice.

I'm sure Chris is thrilled that you guys are reading his book, fellas, but I'm not sure he needs to know that you bought it for couch change.

A buddy of mine told me recently he bought my eight-year-old book for a fraction of the cover price. I told him I thought it was originally overpriced and I would have waited too...but not eight friggin' years :)

Really enjoyed Chris' book. And really wish the person I lent it to -- who visits here and knows my name -- would give it back.

I was thinking the same thing, too, but figured it was better to come out an author's mouth.

Chris, whatever happened to that next book you were planning?

There are a boatload of Frank Deford titles at half.com for the same 75 cents.
