Perhaps they were lost when the board had maintenance issues.... Not saying they were, but it's a possibility. Not everything is a conspiracy theory...

Second episode was better than the first. The tension between Jackson and his teammates after the Sport magazine article came out was great. Damn, I would loved to be a beat writer for this team back then. No way you would ever be without sidebar stories to write or ever go without great quotes. Damn, the Yankee beat writers had it made!

    It's on right now.

I'm liking it more and more.

  6. For those "rescue me" fans out there, Reggie is played by Danie Sunjata, aka Franco. His character on the show is very confident with a hint of insecurity, kind of like the Jackson character, of course, I'm a bit too young to know a lot about Jackson's manurisms. So far, I haven't given up on it yet, much like many ESPN productions.

Please tell me that's a joke.

  8. I've heard he wasn't the nicest guy to be around.

Reggie is Reggie. He had and has his moments but the bottom line is respect. You show him respect, don't bullshit with him, and he'll do the same. To some he's complicated because he keeps his guards up but Casty, Spnited and a few others along here who have associated with Reggie will proabably agree with my assessment.

Reggie is Reggie. He is a very complex person in many ways and simple in others. He wants to be liked but at same time keeps his guard up. If you show him respect he will respect you.

At the point of Bronx Burning he was as big a name as there was in baseball -- perhaps in all of pro sports. He was Barry Bonds.

Today Reggie has mellowed a lot from his playing days. When you see him working with the younger players you can never envision Barry Bonds doing the same.

I haven't watched Ep. 3 yet but I've been pleasantly surprised thus far.
Turturro has been sensational as Billy...Sanjata could have a little more swagger to Reggie but that's the only real flaw so far.

I'm interested to see how they eventually handle Game 6 of the '77 Series and Reggie's reaction to his performance. I was there, I was in the Yankees clubhouse afterward and what we shockingly got was humble, subdued Reggie, with his father in the clubhouse with him.

For some reason I don't think it's going to be portrayed the way it was and that would be a shame. Reggie's Post-Game 6 "performance" was every bit as impressive as his 3 home runs ... no braggadocio, no "I 'm the straw," just humble Reggie with his arm around his father's shoulder, trying to convince everybody he owed it all to his old man...the perfect end piece for a very bizarre season and a very complex man.

I saw episode 3 last night and I'll admit I'm enjoying the overall product. Billy and George are being played perfectly, even though it doesn't really look like George, but I do question some of their "facts." I realize stuff is being altered for dramatic effect, but at one point we have Phil Pepe in Billy's office having a drink with Billy. I don't believe that ever happened (but I do have a call in to Pepe to verify). And there's a spot where two reporters are interviewing George in his office and I find it hard to believe only two were there. There were seven or eight who regularly covered the team and I don't believe they would have let just two in there with George.

Also, there's a shot of George on the telephone telling someone named Milt that he's going to fire Billy when he gets to Detroit. The narrator then says "AP is reporting that Billy Martin will be fired ..." Well, Milt would be Milton Richman and he worked for UPI, not AP.

As for Reggie, I think the actor has his mannerisms down pretty good but he's coming off a bit too strong. Reggie was a strong character, but in my dealings with him, he was a lot more low-key, a bit more humble (as spnited has noted). He could be strange with his answers but I never saw him be nasty.

The minor characters like Munson, Rivers, Yogi and a few others are excellent.
