Yeah, Martin's kid (he's not a kid, though) was also at Old Timer's Day representing his dad. He is a dead ringer... right down to the pinky ring.

I thought that TBiB was great... for unintentional comedy. Turturro is great as Martin while Platt is entertaining as George, but he doesn't look like him that much (OP's face is round, GS' face is a bit longer) and the acting is a bit overdone. Whoever is doing Jackson is pretty tame. I would figure that Reg was a little more fiery, confrontational and pompous back then. My biggest gripe was the story & direction. I fully agree that ESPN fucked up (as expected) by focusing mostly on the Yanks and not following the book, but I HATED that close up of Platt/Steinbrenner during Game 4 of the '76 Series. It looked so amatuerish.

But all in all, I think it wasn't soo bad for someone who was five years away from being born. Maybe if anyone my age or younger watches that, maybe they'll be curious as to what really went on then. But, since we're talking about people my age, they'll forget what they've watched 30 minutes later and put on MTV Road Rules/Real World or some horse-shit like that.

PS - I think the guy playing Yogi is doing a pretty good job for such limited air time.

Billy Martin: "Nobody ever took me to the 21 Club."

The innocence of him saying that line, and the look on his face, was great. What I like about this show so far are these type of moments.

"Because hurricanes ain't nothing but soft winds when Reggie comes to bat."

    Great line.

Since when did Reggie Jackson merge with Rickey Henderson?

So far I like the Reggie character. I'd love to know from SJ writers here who covered the Yanks back then if this Reggie -- and disregard the actor playing him, whether he looks like Reggie or not -- but if this Reggie ESPN is portraying is accurate.

No he doesn't look or act like Reggie. It's all litterary license. Reggie as a player could be an asshole. He has mellowed a lot since retiring as a player. He walked it like he talked it, I will say that much for him.

Did you cover him at all, Boots?

Actually, I interviewed Reggie a couple years ago, and I thought the Spring Training interview session was dead-on Reggie. Spoke to me exactly like that.

I've known Reggie a little bit and for all his success he is a bit insecure and really wants to be liked. I think that came across in movie.
