More bad news for Biden, the economy added 336,000 jobs in September.

It IS bad news for me, because I'm having a devil of a time hiring workers.

The punditry this morning was saying Biden was screwed either way. If less than 177K, the CW was a recession was coming. If more than 177K, the Fed was likely to keep hiking interest rates to kingdom come. The numbers had to thread that 177K needle to be positive.

But wage growth last month was within reason and other underlying numbers were not bad, so all in all it doesn't look like we need to break out the flapper girls and Model A's anytime soon.

There’s a Mexican population a bit more upstate, Ulster and Orange Conties. Not sure how large it is, but it’s there.

Migration patterns are very difficult and have confounded academics for decades. For example, Mexicans in NYC are frequently from the Puebla area. Mexicans in the Denver area tend to be from North Central Mexico.

The topper is that the largest Laotian community on the United States is in Minneapolis. Why a group of people from near the equator moved to someplace as cold as Minneapolis is something I don't understand.

Some of it has to do with Lutheran immigration charities, and incentives the state government and the U of M had in place at the end of the war and since. Counterintuitive for sure, but it's been 50 years of arrivals from Southeast Asia into the snowbelt.

How did Minnesota become a hub for Hmong people?

60-70 years ago, the Detroit auto plants often had specific counties in Appalachia they each recruited from in order to keep friends and extended family together and reduce turnover.
