We’re primarily looking there, yes, but also found some really good deals on Lakes Ontario and Oneida.

We’re also looking for one with enough space to be a primary residence, which is harder than I thought it would be.

I'd give a non-vital body part to be able to live a quiet existence somewhere on Cayuga Lake. Unfortunately, that one is not going to happen in this lifetime.

If you'd rather be closer to the city, my brother lives in Mahopac and it has a beautiful lake, and Putnam County taxes.

This was the view from my dorm room when I was at Ithaca:

I think that’s the one I looked at that has a bunch of plots for sale in the $60k range, that we could build our own house on. I wasn’t sure how developed the surrounding area is or how good the schools are.

The downside of looking for a house five or six hours from where we currently live.

These NY retirement dream locales feature winter weather.
    You’re weird.

Winter weather is great when people know how to handle it and don’t fall to pieces before the first snowflake lands.

It can snow ten feet for all I care once I don’t have to go to work.

    I’m aiming for northern Michigan.

If I wanna see snow I'll go visit it.

If I wanted to live in 110-degree heat I’d stick my head in an oven.

It's not the heat. It's the humidity.

That's why God made air conditioning. At least you don't skid on humidity or have to shovel it.
