A high school friend’s father owned a duplex rental company. A few of us works for him a couple summers. The guy had a huge plot of land outside town and planted some trees all around the perimeter, probably a half-mile worth of it. One of my jobs was to drive a front-end tractor around with a 55-gallon drum full of water in the front and pour buckets of water on the trees. There was a drought that summer so they needed it several days a week.

One day I was making a U-turn with the front loader down and smacked right into the edge of the road. My big barrel went flying and I about fell off the tractor. I backedd up and saw a huge hole in the road, like two square feet. That part of the blacktop was now in the front loader.

I saw no one coming so I put the piece back in place and continued on my merry way. For many years I worried that someone would come get me and charge me for fixing the road. Guess they never found out!
