There's a True Value in a neighboring town, about three miles away. It's a great store.

I exited the last Denny’s I entered without sitting down. I saw about 20 houseflies before the hostess ever saw me.

I like Denny's a lot, but yeah, it's almost always empty, whenever you go.

That’s just it; the two we frequent are clean and the staffs are fantastic. When compared to the BJ’s across the parking lot Denny’s is a Mortons.

Those types of “family” style, American sit down restaurants are having a hard time lately.

There’s a similar type of chain here in the Northwest, Shari’s (best known for their pies) that has closed a bunch of locations recently.

We went to a Denny’s in Traverse City during the pandemic and subsequent labor shortage, where a guy wearing pajama pants seated us, served us and then, when I looked back in the kitchen, cooked our meal. We were the only people there. It felt like a scene out of a disaster film where most of the population had been killed.

I have a soft spot for Denny’s. A late-night go-to spot in high school and college. I wolfed down many a Grand Slam and strong coffee after boozing with friends.

But haven’t been to one in years and the prognosis looks bleak.

I always thought the Grand Slam was what you did after you left Denny’s. Not what you ate while there.

Maybe I'm to blame because to my recollection, I'm never eaten at a Denny's.

When I lived in Charlotte, Denny's in Shelby/Cleveland on US 74 was usually our breakfast spot on the way to Knoxville. Damn, I miss those mountain drives.
