Gotta love Trump and Musk's big idea to remove government spending from the calculation of GDP. That way the cuts to our government won't drop the numbers. Of course, if you do that you can no longer compare it to previous years, and nevermind that including gov't spending has been an international accounting standard for like 70 years. Can't have his Majesty looking bad in front of the peons.

Can’t erase it completely if the workers you fired can’t buy stuff.

They could tell their peons that they should be thankful for the chance to pay more as a tribute to their king, and the peons would gladly do it, while buying their shitty red hats and coins, and lining up for pep rallies.

Self-awareness, rational thought and intelligence are not things there.

Reminds me of the Reagan Administration's decision to include military in the total employment numbers at the end of 1982. Resulted in a sudden drop in unemployment at the start of 1983 and the journalistic infrastructure at that time was not there to say "Well Actually."

(Turned out actual non-military employment did turn a corner at that very spot, so it mostly passed under the bridge.)

Actually, no government employees should be counted WRT the unemployment rate. The UR should be a product of the economy, not whether Washington decided to print a bunch of money and hire a million people.

The unemployment rate is not the same thing as the gross domestic product.

Yes, since no government employee produces anything of any economic or societal value.

Also, if a bunch of government employees lose their jobs they aren’t just disappearing. They’re going to be competing with all the other people already looking for private sector work.

On what planet does it make sense to deliberately withhold important data in order to understand something?

I thought it was announced that the people released from government jobs:

    a) would not be counted in unemployment stats, and

    b) will not be eligible for unemployment benefits

... because their jobs were worthless in the first place, nobody will notice they're gone, yadda yadda, blah blah

Oh, and ... the cruelty is the point.

Exactly. He can’t stand the idea that anything could make him look bad (not realizing everything already does) and so he makes up transparent bullshit that his cult swallows whole. This old PSA may as well be his instruction manual.
