CNN reporting it has found four separate instances in 2011-2012 where Bernie discussed primarying Obama. That's not gonna be a vote getter. I know he knows this is his last shot, and that makes mighty hard to quit, but Bernie needs an Eddie Futch to throw that towel.

I'll be very honest. I like the progressive ideas, but if I have to sacrifice them as a priority for four years and in exchange Trump is evicted from office, I'll still count that as a huge win.

Yeah, voting preferences are often based on emotion and likability is usually very important. You're right. I voted for Obama in large part because I just liked him (though I wish he were more progressive). But this cycle there weren't a lot of likable candidates, at least to me, so policy preference took over.

I cannot stress this point enough. The public's perception of what a candidate is like as a person is not necessarily what said candidate is really like. I know enough people who worked for Warren, many as volunteers, to know she's just a nice friendly person. My son's friends who're political pros who worked on the Clinton campaign said she was friendlier and treated them better than just about any other candidate they'd worked for. Deval Patrick is nice as pie, if not nearly as exciting as pie. Those are just the ones I know about. This doesn't necessarily make them great candidates or effective pols, but when people talk about a candidate's personality, they are often talking about their own.

The last 3 months put that in serious doubt.

Biden's VP choice will be left of him. It's going to be someone that will make sure progressives have a spot at the table even if said running mate isn't considering "progressive" him or herself.

Honestly, if Bernie were to win the election it would kill progressive politics for a generation.

He wouldn't accomplish anything. People keep talking about how he couldn't work with a Republican Senate, but honestly, what makes anyone think he could work with a Democratic House? He's not a member of that party either, and a lot of them think he's an asshole. You can argue that he'd do all these things by executive order, and maybe that would work in some cases, but it would be wildly unpopular and I'm not sure he'd bother. His track record is one of total indifference to enacting real change. Like Trump, he'd rather just yell about it.

One thing that strikes me is the regular concern people show that Biden's mental lapses will be a major liability in the election . . . but not how his mental lapses will be a major liability as a president.

Is that where we are now, Biden dementia > Trump dementia?

I mean, they're not worse than the mental lapses of Cheeto Jesus. It would still be an improvement over what we currently have.

She no doubt made a series of mistakes that played a role in her campaign tanking.

I don’t share the sentiment that Trump won’t debate
