There has to be a scene in the next two movies where Luke explains to Kylo that Darth/Anakin eventually redeemed himself, that Kylo's idol wasn't the unflinching villain that he thinks he is. Really, the only people who know about that are Luke, Darth (dead) and Palpatine (dead). Whether or not that is enough to turn Kylo back toward the Light is debatable, but I can't see that scene not taking place.

Also, if Dick is right and Kylo is forever turned to the Dark Side, then he will be the one to strike down Luke, likely in front of Rey, completing Luke's transition to Obi-Wan's role.

Of course, that could be the thing that turns Kylo completely to the dark side. He wants to be better than Vader. What better way to surpass him than to do the one thing he couldn't, and embrace the dark side wholly and completely at the end of Episode VIII?
Then you can have Rey deal with him in Episode IX in a two-hour fight sequence that leaves millions of fanboys around the world with squishy underwear.

If you're headed out to see the movie and don't remember everything about the first two trilogies, you can check this out. A pretty good recap if you ask me:

Or learning that Darth eventually turned back to the Light, which he likely doesn't know now, could help Luke again bring another family member back to the good side. It could really go either way. Plus, I never got the impression that Kylo wanted to be "better" than Vader, just that he wanted to complete his grandfather's work, whatever that means. He thinks he is doing what his grandfather would want, fight for the Dark Side, when in reality it is quite the opposite.

EDIT: As I wrote that response, I kind of forgot that Luke had already tried to train Ben/Kylo. So it is likely Luke already tried to convince him of his grandfather's redemption.

The First Order know about Anakin's redemption, as detailed in the novelization. They see it as a mistake by an otherwise great man.

Ah, I have not gotten into the novels or comics. I don't feel like I've missed out on too much not knowing the deeper canon of the EU. Hope it stays that way with the next two.

But we knew he was good at one time, a Jedi a Knight who fought alongside Obi-Wan and others once upon a time.

And, yeah, Vader was a dick in ANH, but we knew little about him except that Obi-Wan once trained him and he "murdered" Anakin, from a certain point of view. Kylo Ren is a petulant snot that everyone already hates. They aren't redeeming him, especially in light of how much heat they are already taking for ripping off plot points.

In TFA, Ren basically experienced Anakin's arc, just compressed When the moment of truth arrived, he went another way. He won't be redeemed. If he is, that moment means very little. He committed fully to the Dark Side on that bridge.

It wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't make it out of VIII alive. He's unlikable, unoriginal, and weak. When he dies, it'll bring the house down.

Remember who you are talking to right now. There is about a 99.9 percent chance I'm passive-aggressively quoting these posts in 2017 or '19.

Kylo Ren murdered his own father. I'm not sure he's worth redeeming, nor should Leia and/or Luke really be interested in doing so.

In fact, I specifically predict a confrontation with Leia that mirrors the one with Han. As he begins to waiver about the Dark Side, she kills him.

    "I love you, Mom."

    BAM!

    "I know."

You haven't seen the movie yet, but you're arguing with us about plot developments? Good lord.
