It really is outside the main narrative. This story tells us more about the war, whereas the main narrative uses the Galactic war as a backdrop to a story about Anakin Skywalker's rise, fall and redemption, along with Luke's maturation into a Jedi and eventual redemption of his father.

Rogue One ties in, as it's supposed to, but it is very much a separate story.

What is the proper waiting period for spoilers? Seems like those who wish to avoid them should be checking out of this thread until the see the movie any moment now.

The huge glaring warning in the thread headline.

That is an old thread title. If it was "Rogue One" (With Spoilers), I would agree with you.

I think spoilers are OK now. If you haven't seen it at this point, why are you on this thread?

That said, going to break the spoiler seal

I don't know how much more of Vader we're going to get in standalone films, but I'm so happy the last image we get is not his emo noooooo but him laying waste to a bunch of rebels with his light saber and the force. Fuck you prequels, we got our Vader back.

When I saw this thread pop up to the top the past few days after the premiere, I just assumed it was "Latest Star Wars Film (WITH SPOILERS)."

Especially since we're supposed to get a new one every year from now on.

That last scene. Hot damn. Even if it was just 2 minutes of fan service, that was freaking awesome. We never really got to see Vader like this- only heard about it. Why everyone shit their pants when he was around. It wasn't him just force choking someone from afar or fence some jedi. He straight up murdered those rebels like it was a walk in the park. These rebels were doing anything they could to get those plans out of there.

As for the rest of the movie, it was good. Felicty Jones was great as Jyn.

Wow. I never thought of a true time gap between V and VI. So Han was frozen all that time. I guess in my head it was a few weeks or months.

I don't remember the specific source, but I think Han was supposed to have been on ice for 2-3 years.
