Batman, I never made the Battlestar Galactica connection, but I see it now.

Also, I think you are misreading the galactic reaction.

Is it too much of a spoiler to say these two movies have been a huge waste of Gwendoline Christie? Brienne of Tarth would wipe the floor with Captain Phasma, even if you sent the former out there in her pajamas and let the latter wear the damn armor.

Angry Star Wars Fans Petition Disney to Remove The Last Jedi from Canon

Some people desperately need to find something meaningful in their lives. First we had trolls using fake accounts to mess with The Last Jedi's fan scoring on Rotten Tomatoes. Now some idiots have started a petition to have the movie removed from Star Wars canon. It's as if the whole thing sailed right over their heads.

I feel like after TFA, people were shitting on it because it was just a re-telling of Star Wars. Now, we have a movie that kind of went in a completely different direction, and it got shit on too. The line for directors here just seems to be really, really thin, and I can't imagine a way to make everyone happy. And fuck, does it even matter? It made $21M on Monday alone. It's four-day take is $241M, vs. $288M for TFA. I don't think anyone except the most strident fanbois thought it was a crap movie, so they're going to keep making them.

I'm only a quarter of way in, and I already don't think her interpretation is correct on multiple points. Since when has Star Wars made logical sense? It's pretty strongly in the soft sci-fi category, as opposed to Star Trek (fantasy but at least tries to explain things) or Gravity. As a result, the practicality of the slow-speed chase bugs me way less than others, seemingly.

Also, Finn and Rose settle on Benico Del Toro as the hacker because 1) he manages to get them out of jail and 2) they're wanted criminals now, even more so because they broke out of a jail and 3) they're facing a strict time deadline. There is a sense of urgency to their quest, so if they think this random guy can do the hack, they just need to go with it.

I keep seeing remarks about how their task was ultimately pointless, which to me was kind of the point. For once, in a Star Wars movie, the half-assed plan of the good guys - Finn, Rose and Poe - went wrong. We saw the consequences. If they don't go on their mission, then the rebels can sneak off their ship like they planned, and more of the escape pods survive. Instead, Del Toro - who, unlike Han Solo, actually *is* a mercenary who only cares about money - double-crosses them.

What was the galactic reaction, then? The Resistance tried to contact its allies for help, the message was received, and it was ignored. That's pretty much the rest of the planets telling them that it's all over, right?

There was a garbled response before they turned the attention away from it. I'm guessing those allies out there will be part of Episode IX.

I thought they said the message was received at multiple points, but no one responded (meaning they ignored it).
Or, to borrow from The Simpsons:

I really have to watch that bit again, but I read the final moment before you-know-who shows up, they did hear something.

My thought on that is we'll probably see some Lyanna Mormont style "You refused the call" shaming.

Yes, they definitely did hear something after saying how it had been received and ignored. I took that to mean that they finally received a response, maybe just one from the many planets they sent the message to.
