And I think Abrams and Co. have really tried to telegraph that this trilogy is not one long guessing game about who is who. Even the reveal that Ren was Han and Leia’s son was dropped casually and early in TFA.

I want to write a standalone set in the shipyards when they built the Millennium Falcon. Like the docks season of The Wire.

Rogue 0.5: Wedge Biggs goes to Toschi Station to pick up some power converters. Hijinks ensue.

I think there's room in the franchise for a small-scale anti-epic. The Dog Day Afternoon of Star Wars movies.

I'm not sure I have my finger on the pulse of the viewing public, but I want to see it.

I believe her reaction made it clearer. I forget if she actually said it, but by the look on her face, you can tell she does know. I'm sure Rey's parents told her some lie when she was a kid and she held on to that lie to keep herself going all those years. A child's self-delusion became a young adult's strong belief. Now that she has found a place and a purpose, she can let it go and finally seems to do that during her confrontation with Kylo Ren.

My question is if this is still the Skywalker family story. All we've got left is Kylo Ren. The only mysterious parentage we have left is Finn (Remember Maz's bit about familiar eyes in The Force Awakens. She sees something familiar in Finn), but that would be....interesting.

If it’s the Finn/Lando thing.... I hope not. Seems cheap. And would go against the direction of the flick. And I love Lando!

The next movie can go anywhere now. There likely will be a Kylo resolution. (Unless he’s going to be the baddie in the new Rian Johnson trilogy).

Leia said he can’t be saved. Could be a head fake. But he’s pretty far gone and the No. 1 job of the rebels will be to destroy him.

Early in this thread, when TFA was still out, I said you can’t believably redeem a character who murdered his father. I stand by that.

EDIT: Here it is. Two years ago today.

This was excellent. And I felt the same way after watching it. Sure, big picture, this felt a little like Empire. But it wasn't derivative the way TFA was. It was its own movie. There were moments where I said, "I didn't see that coming." Didn't have that in TFA. Really excited for the final installment now.

Why do I care who Rey's parents are? Seems like a lame plot point doubling as masturbation fodder for Star Wars geeks.

I guess I just missed the boat on all of that. After I saw The Force Awakens, I did not give one moment's thought to who her parents were. Didn't think it was really that important.

I felt the same way about Snoke. Who cares where he comes from?
