I'd like to add, as another person who's covered sports at all levels, that college softball is simply glorious. You basically don't even need to be there until the game's over, at which point they'll hand you a box with all the scoring sequences on it, plus stats. Even if you do show up, it's going to take about 80 minutes and, since it's college, they don't play many doubleheaders.

Actually, almost every major program around plays a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on either Friday or Sunday.

Confession time. I was covering a high school softball game yesterday. Local team gets a hit that brings in two runs. I catch myself letting a small, "Fall Fall Fall...Yes!"
It was 40 degrees with a steady 10 mph wind. The hit made it 11-0 in the bottom of the fourth, thus ensuring the game would be over after the top of the fifth. I hope I can live with myself.

There is no greater feeling, Batman, than watching the 10th run score in the third inning of a 10-0 softball game.

...except in states where you still have to play five.

In the Pac-10, Arizona would play a single game at Cal on Friday, and single games at Stanford on Saturday and Sunday. (ASU vice-versa, starting with a single at Stanford, then two at Cal). Then, the order is reversed when the games are in Arizona.

And UCLA/Washington are travel partners, since USC and Wazzu don't have programs. That's a tough road trip.

Almost every game takes less than two hours.

Well since I got bitched at with one phone call (swim mom) and an another e-mail (swimmer, the kid of said mother) for not posting any pics of swimming this week on our website (they weren't even at home, and we ran a full story of the conference meet that took place 65 miles away), I kinda, sorta feel your pain.

I'm knee deep in HS Bball, girls regionals, boys districts...it's not like I'm busy.
