Was challenged today. Gladly said no and stated why:
"Sorry, but I choose to donate to other equally worthwhile causes, but thanks."

My buddy, who challenged me, texted me and was cool with it...he only did it because his teens made him do it.
My response: "Well my kid likes choo-choo trains and doggies, he won't be sad Daddy didn't play with water."

    Oh yeah.

She thought she got a bit of a slow pour instead of having the water dumped on her.

That's Carl, the building super/homeless guy who lives in the storage unit.

  11. Pearlman's take on the Ice Bucket Challenge. he's donated money but didn't do the challenge.

When I was at the paper I spent 11 years working on a committee that raised more than $2 million for ALS research and a created a local foundation to provide comfort to victims.
The reason the committee - comprised of his friends, and me - was started because a popular man in the community was afflicted with ALS. He was around for the first two years of events. At the second event, a golf tournament he was confined to wheelchair. He died a few months before the third year's event.
Like Pearlman, I have been around people with ALS. And their families.

Sorry, Jeff, but the X phenomenon was pre-Internet.

No one will forget ALS now because every year come donation time we'll have the hashtags -- and Facebook videos -- that tap the special memories.

In fact, the ALS folks ought to earmark one week in the summer as #ALSChallengeWeek so that the fad of ice dumping doesn't fade from memory and continues to spur the message.

It would be ALS's thing: laughing shivers and hearty donations.
