The Internet dating world is a cesspool

That's exactly what it was. There's so many options on dating sites that people get really selective and it's really easy to give people reasons to reject that they wouldn't care about if they met you in person. Less is better.

Another reason the old one sucked is that I list myself as "a few extra pounds" because I'm still about 15 pounds from my goal weight and I am a scrupulously honest person. Then you combine that with the main picture I was using being a face shot (which I thought looked pretty good). But "a few extra pounds" + face shot almost always means "morbidly obese and trying to hide it."

There's a science to this shit, apparently. I remember reading an article that said that profile photos of men who aren't looking directly at the camera get significantly more responses from women. Sure enough, old picture was a mug shot looking right at camera. New one is a picture of me at my sister's wedding, talking to someone off-camera.

Got another contact in the last hour. Women are weird.

 

Word has probably gotten around that you would.

 

Lemme tell you, it was a lot easier to be willing to lay the would when there was no chance I'd have to back it up. I may have been writing checks my penis can't cash.

Oh man, we're not even close to that. This is fun at all, but good lord I'm not touching what I could legitimately pull two months into a separation.

 

Since I promised updates, here we go.

I took my time off reading up on the best ways to present yourself and such, moved to a new town, waited for the divorce to be final, and went ahead and re-signed up for some sites this week.

It's going shockingly well. The sixes are lining up. I've got two main prospects at the moment. One I have a confirmed date with next week, should be fun. The other is ... problematic. She is nice, and definitely a solid six, and very normal. She is clearly interested. I keep waffling on whether to pursue anything because she's too sixish and normal. It makes me uncomfortable. I usually attract low-medium sixes with social problems.

 

You picked a good time to get back to online dating. You'll notice response rates hit a peak from mid-December until Valentine's Day. It's relationship season.
