The Internet dating world is a cesspool

wow, talking to two different women this weekend. BOTH tell me they still live at home with their folks and they're in their mid-to-late 30s and BOTH tell me "I don't drive, is that a problem?"
so, plenty of deadbeats out there.

The "don't drive" thing is definitely more of a dealbreaker to me than the living with parents thing - I could see that being reasonable given a recent layoff, either on their part or their parent's part. Unless you're in a major metro area with lots of public transit, the no driving thing seems like a pretty big issue.

And, to counter some of the pessimism in this thread - I'm about three weeks into dating someone from online, and it's going great so far. We have a lot of mutual friends in common but by happenstance hadn't met before, so I sort of feel like we might have hit it off anyway when that first meeting happened. So, I'm not sure if this is solely a "win" for the non-cesspool side of the Internet, since I'm also almost positive at least one of our mutual friends went to bat strong for me.

If they're hot enough, that helps.

EmotionallyNeedy tried to walk back her "friends" speech tonight with a series of texts that essentially said:

"I know I said I think of you as a friend, but I want to keep calling it dating when we hang out. I'm easing myself back out there, and we're kind of in between friendship and the early stages dating."

No. Fuck you. That's not a thing.

Wait, did you get the friends speech? I thought you were thinking of giving that speech to her? Or was that someone else?

Translation: She's probably got a bunch of you on the hook and doesn't want to burn any bridges until she makes up her mind which one she wants.

Too late. No takebacks on that shit. I learned my lesson.

Why is this so fucked up, so childish?
The game-playing seems off the charts.
I am very glad I am not single.

Nah, but game-playing isn't that big of a problem. You just take it offline as fast as possible. The people who want to message forever aren't worth your time.

EmotionallyNeedy's games aren't a problem because I crossed her off the list the moment she gave me a reason to. Her walk-back attempts are amusing but futile.

I think someone creating gradations of friendship within a certain formal structure of dating is exhibiting a level of immaturity.

Lippmann, you and Vombatus seem like a good match.

Good luck. And, please, no video.
