I usually went with a coffee/lunch date for the first one. Nice and cheap. No chance for drunken mistakes - and by that, I mean those of a sexual nature AND reflexively picking up bar tabs.

Yeah, I try to do first dates someplace where we won't be stuck forever and I don't mind paying. I always offer to pay, but I don't mind if they prefer to split.

My primary consideration is must be shorter than me.

Other than the journalist part, this is my strategy as well. First date is happy hour drinks and we usually split the bill. Part of that is also that the women of my generation see no problem with that and usually insist on it. I'm more than okay with that.

For the second date, I try to do something more active. It depends on the woman and her interests. That can be an art museum or a music concert or going bowling. Having plenty of options to choose from helps, though I do often pick the same few places for first date drinks since I know I'm comfortable with them.

Drinks, home-cooked meal and boardgames for second or third date.
    It always worked for FART.

Sometimes when I post, I am trying to set someone up for a good reply. But in this case, I didn't mean to set the table for Expendable to hit Ned's behind out of the park. So he caught me with a good unexpected LOL as well.

    Well done, expendable, well done.

Yeah, showing a prospective partner you know your way around a kitchen is a really bad tactical move.

Methinks he was referring to the board game. Just a hunch.

Thanks so much, dude- I never would have guessed the conceit he was using without your help.
