Re: the Oregonian. If you read into that story, the publisher is asked if any changes are planned as far as days of publication. And he says something to the effect of: "Do you think I would tell you anything ahead of time?" Not very comforting. If the Oregonian cut back to three days a week, that would be the biggest stunner yet.

I was thinking the same thing. He had a chance to deny it and put any rumors to rest, and he didn't take it.

A lot of talented reporters declining to ride in the clown car that the paper is becoming.

Saw on Twitter earlier that Bob Marshall, outdoors guy and Pulitzer winner at the T-P has also bailed.

@Dash30DashNOLA if anyone wants to keep up.

If y'all will excuse me, I'm driving to Louisiana to kiss this woman on the mouth.

I was just coming here to post that, Dixie. And I'll second that this has to be read... her opinion is spot on and calls out the T-P for what is really going on.

She may not have a job after this, but her conscience will definitely be clear. :)

    Amen!

I feel fortunate to still have my job, but my place has been completely wrecked by layoffs. When she talks about doing work after her shift because there's nobody else to do it -- that really hit home. And I'm sure I'm not alone on that. The people in the comment thread nailed it, though. Management can get memos like that from a different staffer every day and it won't make them change anything. But it's nice to see someone fight the good fight and say the things we all want to say.

The T-P staffer has earned my applause.

But as has been mentioned, it will do no good. The suits who run media corps are soul-less bastards. If they even read the e-mail, they'll hit the delete key soon after. I admire her telling it like it is and I hope her "execution" day isn't moved up by the warden.

It was a jackass move on her part. She'll be lucky if she isn't shown the door earlier.
It's a fucked up situation no question about it, but to blast the T-P while you are still collecting a paycheck from them is totally stupid. I applaud what she's done but she should've used common sense. Keep what you've got UNTIL you get what you need. Martyrs are dead and a hero ain't nothing but a sandwich.

The problem is the new management will just shrug and say "Meh."

She blew off steam. If she gets fired, meh. If they keep her until Sept. 30, meh. They're not going to change their minds about what's been done. It won't matter.

First thing she needs to do is quit working after her shift.

Sounds like she'll be happy to move on.
