It's like people in Seattle (and elsewhere) complaining that someone stole their team. Well, unless you happened to be a shareholder, it wasn't ever YOUR team to begin with.

And now they've lost some legal notices to the alt-weekly.

    That's the ultimate insult.

If the local legal system required to publish notices doesn't believe your publication is worthy to reach the masses that's a punch in the gut.

Regardless of what they do to their web site, the print version of the Oregonian was unbelievably barren of advertising as I read it these past few days.

The Sunday paper had a ton of inserts, but far less news hole than you would expect in a major daily. And the Saturday and Monday editions literally had two full pages of paid advertising -- combined. It was all open pages and house ads. Yikes.

Here's an explanation that might make more sense to those here who are, uh, more familiar with the foodservice industry.

Not really surprised. Will be interesting to see how it works, from both an advertisting and editorial standpoint.

  9. I seem to remember -- well, years ago, at least -- that this was a pretty solid company.

Isn't New Orleans a separate animal, because of Katrina and because of a population that was challenged even before the hurricane? Or are Cleveland and all the other Advance papers going to have dirt shoveled over them because the company sees an opening to cut chainwide?

Yes, the damnation of the print model is inevitable. But is this company pushing forward earlier than others because NOLA presented an "opportunity"?
