Loved the Erin-Andy dynamic. Loved Angela leaving but then staying when Michael said there would be baby carrots.

Other than that, not much happened tonight. I like the reinforcement that Michael isn't entirely idiotic and loved the realism the show seems to be going with in terms of the economy and how it would affect a company like DM but felt it was lacking, overall, in laughs. Good episode though but not one I'd rush to see again.

Okay I'm a big fan of the show but there was a period of time where I fell out of watching it -- mostly due to my work schedule -- but have gotten back into it now. Could someone please fill in a couple holes for me?

1.) I remember when Ryan was busted for frauding the company. How did he end up with a corporate position after doing that??

2.) What happened with Toby's move to Costa Rica??

I'm trying to catch up on the storyline and fill in the gaps. Thanks!

Last night's episode showed that if the company goes under, it will hurt Michael more than anyone. It is too stressful for him to deal with, even more than Jim. I have a feeling the company will be fine. Or someone will get laid off and it will be Ryan leading to the show following Ryan as he works at 7-11 or something.

  4. Hmm. I'm not sure about that. I really think he was actually showing rare strength last night. He wasn't just in denial mode for himself. It was a purposeful tactic to reduce the stress of his employees. We saw last year he can walk away from the job. And, as he told Wallace back then, he can start a million paper companies. Whenever his back's been against the wall, he has proven to be a fighter.

I mean, yeah, he was stressed and overwhelmed to a degree. But the whole point of the ending to me wasn't that HE couldn't handle this news. It was that he was playing protector. Maybe he realized, as Jim eventually did, that there wasn't going to be any good news. He might have been a little childish and misguided in some ways, but there was purpose and protection in mind, not just fear.

1.) Ryan was working at a bowling alley after getting fired. Michael and Pam quit DM, started their own paper company and brought Ryan on. Michael then started stealing DM customers, and though his company was about to go under, convinced DM to buy him, Pam and Ryan out on the condition that they all get jobs at DM.

2.) Toby got sick, IIRC, and was forced to come back to the US.

Thanks for the info. I remember when they started their own company and the buyout and everything. Still seems odd to me though that he would then later get a corporate position with a company when he has a federal offense of frauding said company on his resume. I was wondering if there was anything there because I didn't see any episodes where he came into that position.

I think Toby broke his neck or something on a zip line ride a day after he got there. I have an image of him in a Halo in a hospital bed, but I can't remember the full story.

Ryan doesn't have a corporate position. He's a temp again now. He's gone from temp (to salesman?) to corporate VP to jail to the bowling alley to salesman (at Michael Scott Paper Company) to temp (at Dunder-Mifflin).
