The Office running thread

At least it's something though. They've pretty much done everything they can do with Dwight - he ran the office for a few days, got removed from that position, and it's clear the show wouldn't work with him as manager. Might as well try the spinoff, since him on the beet farm normally is pretty funny.

Been a while since this thread has received some love (mostly for good reasons), but I felt the opening was pretty good. Almost, almost on the level when Dwight did the fire test in the office. As for the rest of the ep, yeah, interesting.

We didn't watch it yet here, because my wife is P-I-S-S-E-D about the new girl's crush on Jim, and her nefarious plan to bed him during the trip to Tallahassee. She said if she wanted to watch a soap opera, she would click on "Days of Our Lives" on the DVR (which she does watch).

So I don't know what happened last night - and feel free to spoil it, it's not like it's fucking "24" or something - but I do think that it was clumsily handled, from a storytelling standpoint, at the end of the prior episode. Her phone conversation with her friend was about the clunkiest reveal I can recall in a non-daytime drama. It was definitely soap operatic.

Not only that, Dick, but it was revealed in the tag after the credits. So if you didn't stay watching for that - or if you don't DVR "Up All Night" - you didn't see it.

That being said, I almost think that the look she gave them as she walked out of the break room was a subtle enough reveal. It foreshadowed while keeping us guessing a little bit at the same time. Why the need to beat us over the head with it later on?

I'm not even sure I like this storyline at all. I guess it's somewhat realistic - I'm sure women develop crushes on married men in an office setting. I was in a place once where a guy I worked with developed an uncomfortably close friendship with a woman whose husband worked on the night crew right alongside us.

It's not the first time they did something like that after the credits. I like it when they do that. Just a little morsel to hook you for next week. Mini-cliffhanger if you will.

I thought this week's episode was pretty strong. I agree with the Grantland TV critic - it's good that they've finally given Dwight, Jim and a couple others at least a shred of ambition and hope, as opposed to having them waste away in Scranton. Didn't really like the reintroduction of Packer though; I don't think he works without Steve Carrell to play off of.

Enjoyed the Erin-Ryan scenes, but Jim-Kathy not so much. Jim, leave your room !

I usually roll my eyes at the "But what about the CAMERA CREW!" fans, but this week's episode (which I liked a lot) was an example of them being right. I'm thinking of Jim's shenanigans to try to get Kathy out of the room, specifically trying to make Stanley and Dwight stay to protect him. Jim, there's a FUCKING CAMERA CREW there recording evidence that you're rejecting her at every turn. Pam's not going to divorce you if you don't actually, you know, sleep with her.

Also, they missed the boat by giving Dwight the spinoff. I would absolutely watch a show about Stanley cruising for strange with a mortified Jim along for the ride. "Be careful, it gets easier and easier."

It would've been better if they kept with the shots of those scenes from outside the hotel room, through the patio door.

And it looks like Dwight will accidentally say something in front of Pam about Kathy being in Jim's bed.

I'm dangerously close to just saying screw it with this show. This last episode, which I watched last night on DVR, was just horrible. The writing was lame and the banter didn't make much sense.

The plotlines are going nowhere. Where is Robert California? The guy they brought in to "replace" Michael Scott? Kathy and Jim? That didn't work out too well. I thought Erin still had feelings for Andy, not Ryan ... this show is a disaster right now.

    Agreed.

The week prior was so much better. Amazed how the show can have a pretty damn good ep followed by one to forget.
