I agree. Of the three episodes THIS season, this was the best one. Now, that's sad. It seems like they've lost direction. Still looking forward to the wedding show, but that one might be the one that brings on the shark.

Actually liked this one. Not a laugh riot from start to finish, but it was pretty good. The beans, Creed/Meredith. There was some good stuff.

When you get to the point where a show is heavily touting its wedding episode, that is the very definition and the reason "jump the shark" became a cultural meme. This show is dead in the water.

Actually, I'd say having a baby is more jump the shark than a wedding. But read the Entertainment Weekly story about the wedding episode. They say it was a natural progression ... but also give some hints of things to come. I'm having faith that things will continue forward nicely.

Besides, the term "jump the shark" seems to have jumped the shark itself a while ago.

That's the problem I have with that term. It seems every single time a TV show has a bad episode or a dull episode, someone comes out and says "Oh, such and such jumped the shark."

Remember all the people that said that about Lost in Season 3? Yeah. Exactly.

I thought it was engaging episode too.

Major nit: I do hope they don't make Jim into an idiot boss, as one is enough. I know he's a new manager but making him tell the whole group that only some of them would get raises was a page from Michael's playbook.

You're right. The next episode will truly be the shark-jumping. So much so that we might have a new phrase: "That show totally married Jim and Pam."

And, for clarification: I think this means it's downhill from here. At least they're not dicking us over for 5 more seasons with 'will they won't they' bullshit.

I just noticed that Kevin is busting out a rug for the wedding.

Just caught an old episode, and it got me thinking. I really like that Jim is kind of, or might turn out to be, a shitty boss. Or, at least that he's finding the job difficult.

Basically I always like it when they show Michael as competent. I think it's key to the show working. Even if he's a clown 90% of the time, if he can really do the job, even in his insane way, 10% of the time I can at least sort of believe it.

Every time anyone else has tried to step into Micheal's shoes, they've failed. Remember when Michael was gone and Jim tried to combine everyone's birthdays and basically ruined it for everyone? As ridiculously inappropriate and dumb as he can be, Michael does know how to manage those people and as calm, collected and intelligent as Jim usually is, it's been a long-running theme that he struggles with that same task. I really like that dynamic.

I'll admit this episode was pretty average as far as The Office goes. But I would have been more disappointed if Jim was suddenly a wonderful, competent boss. The idea that there is a method to Michael's madness works well for the show.

Jim and Pam getting married... and I think Kevin has a toupee. I am stoked.

I just used the word stoked. I think I am living in 1996.
