The oversharing of vacation photos

Mostly food and scenery. And prose poems about life and love. And, granted, it's a nice place.

To be clear, I'm not in the least bit triggered by it. I'm more or less just interested generally in what motives people's behaviors, particularly in the new social media age. But I also do have some questions about whether it's tone deaf to post what amounts to, "Look at our fabulous life, losers!" posts. Like you said, nobody's holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to look at anyone else's vacation photos. But it is a recognized phenomenon that people start to feel inadequate about their own lives when exposed to such posting. I mean, maybe that's not her problem, you know? But I'm curious about what people think here.

I cleared out my phone last year and it was full of pictures of beer.

I always have a ton of these, too, that I send to my friends.

Meh. Some people post lots on FB; some people post lots here or elsewhere. Wouldn’t read more into one any more than the other.

I’m in Latvia now. Wanna see some shots?

I have shots of a buddy (now deceased) humping monuments around the country. Anyone interested?

Would say you could generally classify people into two different groups:

    1. Those who want to share the unusual or exotic locale they're in on vacation, so others can viscerally be there by proxy and experience or see something/place they haven't before, or revisit somewhere they've been.

    2. Look at me attention whores who crave being the center of attention and use the internet to expand their reach to hundreds, thousands. etc. as opposed to what used to be limited to a group, a party, a conversation.

You'll have to decide which category to fit your acquaintances in. But, if it's hundreds of photos per vacation or per day, I've got a pretty good guess.

I understand the vacation location pictures, but never really got the posting of food thing. If I'm not going to be eating it, not sure I really care. Better be something damn unusual. Posting a picture of your burger, Mexican entrée, pasta dish, uh, well, thanks, I'll pass.

I have a similar acquaintance who works/worked (not sure anymore) in the world of sports. I wonder if our friends lists overlaps by one.

Facebook became pointless when girls in their 20s stopped posting albums of bikinis on the beach and drunk party pics.

Yeah, the hot college girls when Facebook started are now the 33 year old mommies. Those pics are long gone, sadly.
