Damn it. I'm so far behind on The Crown. I hate when I'm not set to watch the finale in real-time.

Whenever it happens, lots of people on the island of Ireland will be celebrating.

Lots more will be celebrating when the Scots go it alone.

Then lots in the Republic will be shitting their pants when they realize they're taking on a failed state (Northern Ireland) with half of the population very hostile to any idea of reunification. The QAnon crowd is child's play compared to loyalist paramilitaries.

Have here been any good Kings in the past 500 years? We have the first Elizabethan Era and the Victorian Era? EII has been known for the disintegration of the Commonwealth and her personal longevity.

And the rise of democracy and quasi-democracy in many of those former states. I'm ok with that.

Can you imagine laying there dying and knowing that the entire world is waiting for the news of your death?

At that point, wouldn’t you be thinking more about family?

Me? Yes. Most normal people with anything resembling a normal life? Yes.

She hasn't exactly lived a normal life, though, has she?

My father and the Queen are the same age. When they were born Coolidge was president, the first television network was yet to be, it was three years after the Beer Hall Putsch, and eight years out of World War I, and the sun never set on the British Empire.

And how is the disintegration of the Commonwealth related in any way, shape or form to the in-name-only monarchy?

I am fascinated by hatred of the monarchy. Oh it has always been there at least in the dragony depths, but never out so openly like everything else is now.

I understand it, also. My gut reaction to a forced YouTube ad for Markle's podcast ($25M deal) was contempt.
