Ray Rice is a thug who just happens to be good at playing football.

    Yep. From that link ...

"Everything I said in terms of what I believe, I stand by. I believe that still," Harbaugh said. "I'll always believe those things and we'll always stand in support of them as a couple. That's not going to change."

Harbaugh added, "When somebody that you care about does wrong and is faced with the consequences of doing wrong and rightfully so, it is tough, it is hurtful. My pain is for both of them as a couple. Going forward, my hope is that they can make it work. From everything that I understand in talking to Ray up until his suspension -- talking to him a lot -- it seemed like they were working hard and they were really doing well. I hope they can weather this part of it, too. I'll be praying for them. If my wife and I can help in any way, we will. That's where it's at."

Harbaugh seemed very cold in that presser, with hollow, rehearsed sentiments.

Very interesting, I didn't know NC law allowed someone to be not guilty and guilty at the same time.

There's more to it, though. According to an AP story, upon reaching a decision on Hardy, a judge heard nearly 11 hours of testimony that included a witness, and found it to be more persuasive than Hardy's effort to maintain his innocence. And not slightly. The judge was "entirely convinced." Here's the link:

Even while the appeal is pending, it seems like there's enough damning testimony (or behavior) to be suspended by his employer.

Just want to clarify, though... in NC, do witnesses in non-jury trials testify under oath?

As for Suggs, his girlfriend filed an order of protection. That's a pretty major step -- certainly not nothing.

TMZ says it has proof that NFL knew about elevator video and “turned blind eye” to it. Story —> yhoo.it/1pJpuuv

Of course they KNEW ABOUT it. But did they have access, or not seek access? That's the big question.

Their first response to the video this morning was that they asked for all evidence and did not receive the video. Either by statement or implication, that was supposed to be taken that they didn't know about it.

I am starting to come around to the idea that Goodell's job is on the line here. CEOs, even those making eight figures, get canned all the time for publicity black eyes like this.

There is no way they didn't know this video existed. WE knew it existed. We just didn't know why nobody had access to it.

Yeah, I am seeing a lot of calls for his resignation. Doubt that will come, but he might not survive this.

    Here's the statement:

"We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator. That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today."

You are kidding yourself if you think the NFL either didn't know about it or didn't watch it.

    Right.

But they're saying they didn't. (I see BDC noted that they are acknowledging that they knew it existed. I stand corrected there.)

It defies all logic that they wouldn't have seen the video, and it also defies the previous reports of at least three of the league's closest reporters -- reports that were never corrected until today. But that's the island the NFL is on now. They have to carry that story, or they have to acknowledge that A) they lied today; and B) they saw the video and decided anyway that Rice deserved only a two-game suspension.
