Olberman shredded everyone involved in the case. I'm in this biggest fan but as eviscerations go, it was a work of art.

Somebody smart needs to remind Goodell that in situations like this, honesty is ALWAYS the best policy.

If the commish saw the video, it's going to come out. I don't know how, but I've been on the planet long enough to know that it will. And when it does, as long as he sticks to "hear no evil, see no evil," it's going to blow up in his face.

But regardless of whether he has or hasn't, he needs to have a presser ASAP where he reiterates that he completely botched Rice's punishment and explains in detail the flawed reasoning behind the decision to give him only 2 games.

Basically, he needs to apologize, then apologize again.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the owners are gonna pink-slip him for incompetence. If they were inclined to do so, they already had enough evidence prior to this episode. The guy is a big-time fuck-up.

But being caught in a whopper of a lie that utterly destroys the credibility of his office and the league's disciplinary policies? Yeah, I could see a bunch of image-conscious rich guys doing something about that.

They cut him a huge check, tell him to STFU and disappear forever.

Boy, the league is really trying to cover up (again). Maybe a new drug testing deal tomorrow, now reports the Buffalo Bills will be sold for a record sum. None of this is going to work.

Cover up is ALWAYS worse than the crime.

It's too late for Goodell to get out in front of this one, but obfuscating is gonna dig his grave.

Seriously consider Goodell's reign for a moment:

Spygate: Evidence destroyed. Why? No explanation ever offered.
Bountygate: Presumption of guilt, major suspensions, all overturned by former comish, who had to be brought in to arbitrate because of bias accusation.
Referee lockout: Ill-conceived union-busting attempt results in a total debacle in Packers-Seahawks game.
Lockout: First work stoppage in 25 years.
Concussions: Growing proof the NFL lied or mislead players about head injuries. League negotiates absurd settlement with retired players that will be a mess in court for a decade or more.
Redskins: La la la la, nothing to see here! It's heritage!
Ray Rice: whoops! Really effed that one up. But rest assured it was out of ignorance not evil!

Am I missing anything? The Bucs MRSA stuff maybe?

He bungled the NFL Network eight ways from Sunday, to the point that a lot of owners were ready to give up on it.

Also the Incognito case and the accompanying "report."

Other than the bro hugs on draft day, the commish has been a disaster.

I doubt anyone can kill the golden goose, but if it's possible, my money's on Rog.

You think badly of Goodell now? Imagine all the dirty work he did as an underling.

He'll have plenty of time to work on his chess game.

And the biggest sin ... trying to make the Pro Bowl relevant.

Seriously, I've been wondering over the last few days which way the NFL is headed. It's not going away, but I think Goodell may be. It feels worse than Selig ignoring the steroid era.

The mistake with Rice is just an extension of the inconsistent discipline of players during Goodell's tenure as commissioner. It is nothing new for him to be led around by the nose by public opinion. It just finally blew up in his face this time.
