What are you talking about? I saw Berman and Dilfer explain during the monday night game that the NFL was right on top of the situation, acted quickly, and showed leadership!

I saw the television ratings from the first two prime-time NBC games, and they were down from a year ago. This despite having two compelling matchups and other networks largely in reruns or airing "fluff" programming.

This leads me to wonder if we've seen the NFL hit the high-water mark of its popularity. I'm a huge baseball fan and prefer that sport over football, and I certainly don't harbor any beliefs that football's ratings will plummet overnight...

People love their football, but you have to wonder with all of these scandals and now this on top of everything whether some fans might just walk away in disgust. The game and league will still be very popular, but I have to believe there will be a short-term hit here.

    All correct.

And yet, team revenues have grown year to year at a really healthy clip. Profits are way up. The team owners and the players lucky enough to stick are getting pretty wealthy. The average franchise value is now more than $1.1 billion.

The only way the embarrassments you are pointing out matter, are if people tune out. I don't see evidence of that happening yet. This may be the beginning of the end, but given the growth trajectory of the NFL, including during Goodell's tenure, I am going to have to see some real declines to believe he has mutilated the golden goose.

The love for NFL football ain't waning anytime soon.

    Week 1 ratings mean squat.

Can someone explain why Goodell and the league would cover this up? There was more to gain by banning Rice once the plea deal was made than covering up and protecting a domestic violence offender?

Is it a NFL conspiracy or incompetence by Goodell?

The Ravens conspired with Ray Rice to make Jenay look equally culpable in what happened in that elevator:

While moral compass remains missing Ravens, who erected statue to suspect in double murder, release Ray Rice; Dick's, other stores yank Ray Rice jerseys from the sales floor; Rutgers takes a page from Joe Stalin's playbook and purge Ray Rice images from the premises.

    Feckless cowards all.

Goodell has to go. Back in February it was so predictable that The NFL
would try to spin it to keep Rice on the field. Also predictable that
it was going to blow up on them in the age of social media. You can
control Peter King but not TMZ or Deadspin.

BTW, the coldness in Ray's violence reminds me of the start of Gaga's Paparazzi video when the dude throws her off the balcony without the slightest bit of emotion.

It did not look like he was cold cocking her for the first time.
