Punishing the Redskins and Cowboys for spending too much on salaries in a year in which there was no salary cap.

Big difference. Huge actually. As far as we know this is one isolated incident in regards to Ray Rice. That twisted fuck War Machine has a rap sheet a mile long - all of it simple and aggravated assault.

ESPNw has a very detailed timeline. This one caught my eye:

    March 5

Harbaugh tells reporters at a news conference that Rice and Palmer will be attending a couples seminar. He further defends Rice: "Ray has told me his side of it, and everything we've seen so far is very consistent with what he said."

Well, no wonder the State Police never handed over the video.

Ah, ESPNW. The place that the Monday Night rights holder relegated this story to for the first six months of its existence.

I can't imagine the NFL would flat out lie and say they never saw the video, if they did see it. That would be crazy. That would have to come out, and if it did, then Goodell, and everyone else who saw it, or participated in the lie would have to be fired.

I do think maybe there's a little word play here. Maybe outside legal counsel saw it, but no one in the League Office saw it. Maybe an investigator employed by outside counsel saw it.

I really think an outside investigation into how this was handled is warranted. I haven't heard anyone of stature/standing call for one. Will anyone demand it? Will the media call for it?

He's just been repeating the company line all along, Dick. This is a bit like you demanding Colin Powell be fired because of the Iraq War debacle. Sure, he played a role, but c'mon. Who are the real decision makers here?

I've seen Ragu and silent_h and cran mention this, but does anyone really think Goodell's presence is a positive factor in the TV money? The latest contracts were just a similar percentage increase to the previous contracts, and I don't think they were indicative of any new business savvy that he brought to the table. People in the NFL would give Jerry Jones more credit for that anyway.

Remember, Goodell is the one who couldn't get a deal for the NFL Network and finally had to knuckle under to Comcast and take half of what the league initially wanted. I was on some of those conference calls where he tried to amplify the league's position, and it was as clumsy and ham-handed as you'll ever hear from an executive.

Am I the only one who found it incredibly horseshit and cowardly to toss Harbaugh to the wolves last night and not have Ozzy Newsome and Steve Bisciotti there as well? What the hell could those two possibly have been doing that was more important? Bisciotti getting even more bronzer applied?

I know that everyone is tired of Internet outrage at this point, but .. well, I am fucking outraged. I have been outraged for seven months over this. I have begged people to care. I have written an op-ed saying this same thing and sent it to all the fucking Web sites that, suddenly, today, care about it.

For seven months, all anyone cared about was Jennifer Lawrence's tits. And LeBron James. And Justin fucking Bieber. And Woody Allen's stepdaughter.

And, meanwhile, John Harbaugh and Ozzie Newsome made comment after comment after comment right out of the She Was Asking For It guide to male dumbfuckery, publication date, the Stone Age.

    Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed. Non-football matters and public perception are an ownership/management concern.

Harbaugh's job is to win football games.
