For what its worth, Rice spit in the face of Phil Taylor during a game last year. If he didn't play for the Browns, that would have been a bigger story IMO.

If you look for a reason to stop watching anything, you will find something.

Rice's wife's statement says in part, "THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get)?)"

It is she who does not get it. Further, it's her husband who REALLY doesn't get it -- on a number of levels -- everything from how he should act as a professional and a husband to how he could impact others as a potential role model.

But the bigger thing for me is that I am sick of hearing from people either inadvertently or through circumstances thrust into the media glare due to the actions of their loved one and then turn around and blame the media for it.

I wish sports leagues would -- in addition to teaching rookie players about $$$$-handing, social media,
and other things of the sort, would teach their players and spouses some things about dealing with the media. I know I am dreaming again, folks, but this is not the first time this has happened and I am getting tired of seeing it.

It may be your lives, Mrs. Rice, but this episode is not our doing. Talk to the guy who slugged you in a hotel elevator and then sat calmly next to you at two pressers.

I understand it though. I figure the media spotlight is more embarrassing to her than the actual assault.

I wouldn't wade into what is motivating Janay Rice here. Domestic violence is one seriously fucked-up situation, and I don't think any of us can even comprehend the outlook (except the notable ones here who have personal experience).

Her whole life is thrown out for the world now, at a time when she thought things were settling down. I can see why she'd be angry.

The worst part is if the Ravens and NFL had taken this seriously at the outset, Rice probably survives this by sitting out half a season, even if there is video.

Very true. Aside from the video existing, the worst thing that happened to Rice was the 2-game suspension. If he gets 4-8 games, social outcry would be minimal and he'd still be employed.

I interviewed an ex-girlfriend of a player who had been beaten up a couple times and she had the most disturbing attitude about the incident. I remember she said, "People fight, it happens. I don't see what the big deal is."

This was about a month after her ex-boyfriend, who played defensive line in the NFL, broke her nose and cheekbone. Charges against the player were dropped and there was no disciplinary action taken when she wouldn't cooperate with the investigation.
