Regarding the laundry list of bad publicity in the Goodell era, you can add the painkiller lawsuit to the mix. We are just getting warmed up on that one.

And you may as well throw the player discipline for off-field issues on the list. One only needs to look back and conclude that Adam "Pacman" Jones is right: Goodell decides his discipline based on how much media attention the player gets.

Seriously, can anybody think of one thing that Goodell has done that has truly been him demonstrating leadership and putting the NFL in a positive direction, as opposed to just reacting to reaction?

And Roger Goodell may not be out of the woods yet with regards to what Rice and/or the NFLPA might do about the indefinite suspension.

From the "What Took You So Long" files, Nike drops Rice:

One other thought: I would really hope this whole ordeal with Ray Rice will lead to an open, honest discussion about domestic violence, how it impacts the victims, how other people can help the victims, and how people should properly act if their significant other gets upset or angry.

This is not the time to just get statements from groups who have a truly noble goal of reducing domestic violence, in which they are just asked "so what do you think about what happened to Ray Rice?" and then we move on because, hey, we need to talk about wearing our pink jerseys and whether or not the Browns are gonna roll out a play to showcase Johnny Manziel.

But Goodell did discipline Rice. That's the point of the Forbes article.

section 4 says the league and the club cannot both discipline Rice, only the NFL did, not the team. The team's actions was not disciplinary, it terminated the relationship. Whether Goodell could indefinitely suspend someone is a question I know not the answer.

But let the NFLPA come to the defense of Ray Rice. Let them try and make him the victim. Goodell is begging them to step in and take the heat.
