This kinda hits on why I was annoyed/amused at people expressing even MORE outrage after seeing the second video; going from "He deserved at least four or six games" to "He should never play again and should probably be in jail for a long time." Based on the criminal complaint, the upped charges, the reporting, the first video, and everything else we knew, what did people think happened in the elevator? The idea that she slipped and fell, or something else that didn't involve her getting slugged in the head, had already been shot down by the police report and the upped charges, not to mention the reporters who had "sources" who saw the tape.

Looked up Floyd Mayweather to see if this had been posted on this thread. Did not find. But I am starting to think, from what I did see where his name came up that Mr. Mayweather should just STFU. Now.

Next exhibit for why: He thinks NFL is being too hard on Ray Rice. Idiot (That's the most tactful word I would use to describe him and his opinion found at the link below).

    Yes. Exactly.

The Blue Wall of Silence infuriates me. I want bad cops off the street -- and in jail if they act criminally -- as much as anyone. The police represent their communities, and deserve to be held to a higher standard.

I don't think the police should reflexively be given the benefit of the doubt.

I'm also not going to swallow a "Gentle Giant" narrative produced by people trying to enact social/political change without some evidence.

    Oh, piss off.

It's the ultimate example of protecting someone in power.

    Nothing I said was political.

Yeah, just so far we have Bill Clinton and Ferguson in a discussion about Ray Rice and the NFL.

Just sit this one out for a while.

Protecting people in power is certainly a huge element of the media aspect of this story, but it applies to WMDs as much as it does STDs. It's a point you can diplomatically make without dragging in Clinton and Clinton alone.

    What's the better example?

Where's the example of NOW standing up for the accused, instead of the accuser?

You're the one criticizing different media outlets for just now getting it. You want to know where they were in February. Where were they in the 90s?

You want to bring up powerful institutions protecting people, fine. Can we leave President Clinton and President Obama out of it? Please? You have such a hard on for the various ways Clinton abused power, but never seem to have a hard on for the various ways Bush abused power. And cripes, both of them were bullshit. But that's another topic entirely. It's not a goddamn Ray Rice topic. If you want to drag Clinton or Obama into EVERY topic, of course that's going to be "political." For someone really frustrated by ways in which rules and laws aren't being followed by certain people, and the expectations we all have for some people but not others, you seem unable grasp the irony in the fact that you repeatedly, constantly, daily believe yourself to be above the No Politics rule. And dodge it every single time it's brought up.

26 pages into a thread and this is where you want to take it, YF?

    Fuck.

Yankee Fan, you are starting to remind me of a coworker who can't stop complaining about our boss.

Hell, all of her complaints may even be valid.

But I don't want to hear them all day. Coffee break, at lunch, in the parking lot on the way home....
