Here come the Feds, well, at least a retired one, via Newsday's Bob Glauber on Twitter:

"Former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III will conduct independent investigation into NFL’s pursuit and handling of evidence in Rice case."

You can add the recent lawsuit players filed regarding painkiller usage in the NFL. Something tells me that's just the tip of another iceberg.

Reading that, I get where the DA came from now; but seriously everyone in Atlantic gets one free knockout punch before they go to jail? What kind of world are we living in?

BTW, he appears to contradict himself, first he says he would have gotten a conviction without the victim, so she's spared testifying; but then says he did not go through to trial because "he did not want to put her through that again." Anyone have any thoughts on reconciling those two thoughts?

Somewhat fits here or in the topic in on Journalism board: Ted Robinson suspended two games (yes, as long as Rice's original suspension) by 49ers and Pac 12 Networks for remarks about situation:

EDIT: per teh Twitterez, Warriors TV voice Bob FitzGerald to call next two games, including Sunday night's Levi's Stadium regular season debut vs. da Bears.

Ex-FBI Director Robert Mueller to investigate league's pursuit/handling of this fiasco.

As long as McDonald is out there, it's all good I guess.

Adding to 49ers-related idiocy -- Eddie D says Bill Walsh probably wouldn't have let McDonald play and that Eddie would have supported that. This courageous retro-stance comes from the same Eddie DeBartolo who was accused of physically and sexually assaulting a waitress in 1992 and had to pay $200,000 to make that go away.

I was close. I said Louis Freeh.

Will the NFL try to delay Goodell's exit by saying they are waiting for Mueller to conclude his investigation before making any decisions?

I don't know, but I'm suddenly interested in watching a game (and a pregame) I was going to have no interest in seeing tomorrow!

Oh, I can't wait to hear Jim "Hello, friends" Nantz gloss it over.

He glossed over the Dustin Johnson kerfuffle spectacularly the week it blew up on the PGA tour this summer.
