The Ray Rice Elevator Video

He probably isn't wrong. At least his reasoning seems sound. That said, right now Rice doesn't have a team and he is far too radioactive for anybody to touch. It doesn't help that his skills have already eroded quite a bit. Even if a team wanted to look past his actions in that elevator, he's just not good enough any more to be worth the trouble.

The odd thing is, Rice's assault might be on the low end of all the domestic violence instances in the NFL. Not minimizing what he did, at all, but there have been worse incidents that weren't caught on video. Seems like Rice is catching hell for every DV incident that's ever existed in the NFL.

Where does Kobe Bryant rape rank on the violence scale?

A lot of people have an opportunity to send a pretty clear message over the next few days and I hope they take it.

I'd like nothing better than to turn on the television tonight and see 12 people in the stands. The switchboard at Proctor & Gamble ought to be lit up today, asking the company not to advertise with a league that obviously doesn't give a damn about P&G's primarily female customer base. I'd love to see the Susan Komen Foundation tell the NFL it really doesn't want to see pink shoes and pink penalty flags this year, until the league shows it's serious about violence against women.

Of course, I don't expect any of this to happen. The average American sports fan has the social consciousness of a Styrofoam cup. They have to stay on top of what's REALLY important — their fantasy team.

[If your question is, "What are YOU going to do, trifecta?' I was planning on seeing one NFL game this year. Unless there's a new commissioner by then, I'm willing to let the ticket go unused. My life isn't going to be any less meaningful if a season goes by and I don't see a game in person.]

An independent investigation paid for by the institution being investigated is a contradiction in terms. See the Mitchell Report and MLB.

And one that is being "overseen" by two NFL owners. And one being investigated by a man whose law firm has represented Dan Snyder.

    Sweet!

He was kicking the Ginger SpokesApe long before it was fashionable.

And I like his theory about the tape here: The visuals of knocking out Palmer were so bad, they never wanted it to get out. So they trade the attorney deleting his copy for a lenient sentence for Rice.

    And then Harvey Levin happened.

    That's a very good theory.

Given the fact that the Revel is closing and people are going to be out of work, it shouldn't have been that costly or hard to pay someone for a copy of the tape.

2 minutes in an elevator alone with Rice.

Day by day, this gets worse for the NFL. Once the sponsors start making noise publicly, Goodell will be gone. Maybe that process has already begun, we'll have to wait for the video.

Didn't Harbaugh say the video wasn't any different than what Ray Rice had described the incident?
