I would disagree that the second video showed nothing new. For me, the coldness he displays after the punch was the most horrifying thing. If he argument was, previously, that he lost his temper for one split second and he immediately regretted his actions, the video showed that was a lie. There was no bending over to see if she was seriously hurt, no concern or fear he'd just badly hurt someone he loved. He just stood there like he was annoyed, then literally used his foot to move her limp body like she was a piece of furniture. There is zero chance, in my mind, that this was the first time he struck a woman. I mean, for fuck's sake, a casino employee had to come over and stand in the elevator to prevent doors from closing on her head.

I agree with every word. To me, Rice's indifference to his fiancee lying motionless on the ground after he hit her was the most disturbing aspect of the video, even worse than the punch.

That's the biggest reason no matter how many times you heard about what happened, you had to see the video to realize just how disturbing this was.

No way was this an isolated incident.

Anybody genuinely surprised that the owners circled the wagons and Roger is keeping his job?

Good read here on the culture of NFL wifery.
As told to Mother Jones by the wife of ex-Raiders center Adam Treu.
Don't embarrass the player and don't create waves.

I think the timing has something to do with it. If it was the off season the owners
might be more apt to gas Goodell. In season they don't want to have to deal
    with a new commissioner search.

It they do end up dumping him though it would not surprise me if they brought
    back Paul Tagliabue as interim.

Goodell should be smart enough to understand these issues. He should have known that Jenay would blame herself, and want to protect Ray.

Instead, he has her in the meeting, and is lenient in his punishment because she blames herself.

Seems a bit like how top brass military wives are expected to act also.

Further proof that there is no more dumber and brainwashed group of people than the American football fan, college or pro. It's this country's biggest religion and we will go to great lengths to donate to it as well as protect our beliefs in this religion and its personnel.

No. But, I honestly don't think these people realize how stupid they look.

When you say you fully support the investigation, and that you fully support the commissioner, you look and sound like an idiot.

I wonder if folks like the McCaskeys, who are sperm lottery winners, will handle this worse than owners who have made their money in other businesses. The McCaskeys Maras, Rooneys have only ever worked in the insulated world of the NFL.

It was the Westchester connection that caused Goodell to go lenient. When they
met they probably talked about how they went to Walters for hot dogs in the summer.
