The Ray Rice Elevator Video

Here's the other thing, despite the video, and the public attention, Goodell treated this no differently than previous cases.

He should have consulted experts in domestic violence, and it it's pretty clear he didn't.

Instead, he's got Jenay in the room for the meeting with Ray.

Goodell is joined by two male VPs. The Ravens sent general manager Ozzie Newsome and team president Dick Cass to advocate on Rice's behalf. Two union reps were also there in support of Rice.

Are we shocked that in this setting Jenay took her share of the blame, and begged Goodell for mercy?

Ray Rice had a full team of support. Who was supporting Jenay?

    Speaking of Westchester...

This makes me shake my head. Every institution associated with Rice wants to "make a statement". Rutgers scrubbed him from their website, and now New Rochelle High School has weighed in

But, I heard his number will remain retired, as that has to do solely with his athletic accomplishments.

    LOL.

Way to find the perfect balance NRHS!

As a buffer he needed to have one of those Vasser Phd's that the networks have
been wheeling out as domestic violence experts. They all have that lesbian NOW
look and convey an attitude that all men should be castrated.

Loved the quote from the 15 yr NRHS student:

In New Rochelle, the taking down of the NFL jersey and removal of the placard caused confusion among some students, particularly because the jersey Rice wore while a student at the school bearing the No. 5, which school officials subsequently retired in tribute to him, remained on the gym's wall, said Justin Cossifos, 15, of New Rochelle.

"I don't know why they left one up and took one down," he said.

Cossifos first noticed that the NFL jersey was gone from the gym wall Wednesday morning. It was a sign of disrespect that was shocking to see because Rice has been notably generous with his money and time at the school, not only donating new uniforms, equipment and other gear to students but often returning to speak to them and encourage them, Cossifos said.

"All that he has done and this is what they do to him?" the high school junior asked.

Janay has apologized for her role.

Have we ever heard why she was getting in his face while they waited for the elevator, and then just after they got in?

Will be interesting if she gets so fed up with the nuclear fallout against Ray that she writes something that explains ABCDEFG leading up to the LMNOP of it all -- which would absolve Ray for losing his temper in their pickled state.

The pagoda was renovated this spring, so they were closed for a while.

For some weird reason, she was upset about the two times he spit in her face -- once waiting for the elevator, once in it. Crazy, huh?

    Both spit at each other.

Who knows what took place leading up to them appearing in the video for the first time, walking to the elevator.

I think this all goes back to the fact that most people know very little about domestic violence to begin with, unless they experienced it themselves, are an expert in the field, or both.

Listening to some of the comments on ESPN this morning from fans wearing Ray Rice jerseys to last night's game pretty much demonstrate how ignorant the bulk of this country is about domestic violence.

Not surprised that's their current mindset, given that Goodell's job is supposed to be maximizing revenue for the NFL, and there's been no shortage of revenue during his tenure.

With that said, if further investigation reveals Goodell had any knowledge about the video, the owners may have no choice but to take action.
