Yeah, but how about their No. 2 and No. 3 starters?

Or should I say "Starters 1-A and 1-B?"

Arky leading FSU 2-1, in the rain-delayed 5th inning.

Ole Miss got a run back and trails UVa 3-2 in the 7th

Ole Miss takes advantage of an error and a hit batsman to tie it up. Free baseball!

Wow, the kid from Ole Miss is pitching with gauze jammed up one nostril due to the fact he was hit in the face with baseball before the game. He's got blood running down his face right now.

Can't believe the umpires haven't halted the game to clean it up.

Ole Miss wins. Walk-off homer in the 11th.

I heard that Ole Miss and Virginia coaches and players would be holding a special bunting camp after the game. No?

I turned on the Virginia game in the eighth inning - perfect timing.
Quite a finish. Dude had a blood mustache in the 12th.

He was licking it up like an ice cream mustache.

Random Question: What team is shown celebrating in the "Road to Omaha" statue outside Rosenblatt?

    Generic U.

I did a notebook on it at last year's CWS. That is from the sculptor, who lives in Omaha.

    So true, so true Del.

Ultimately, though, it was an unbelievable day here in Oxpatch.

Confederates capitalize on UVA error, HBP, pooch screwed on bad bunt by leadoff guy, RBI single by Mr. Clutch, Logan Power.

Then, Jake Morgan comes out and pitches his ass off for Ole Miss, with the aforementioned, grotesque broken nose. (Been there, done that, in HS football. Not fun.) Kid sacks up, throws three scoreless innings. Rebs avoid disaster even though they made two -- count 'em, two -- errors in the top of the 12th.

First pitch by UVA's Kevin Arico in the bottom of the 12th, Rebs' Matt Smith sends that puppy halfway to the Ajax Diner on The Square. (Check it out sometime. Awesome, affordable eats. Nice scenery, if you know what I mean, and if you've been to Oxford, I'm sure you do ...)

Now Rebs coach Mike Bianco will get his third shot at getting to Omaha in nine years with the team. The former LSU catcher had his team one win away in '05. Lost to Texas twice; Shorties went on to win it all. Same thing with Miami the next year. Hurricanes took care of business. Then, at Arizona State, Ole Miss blew a 3-0 lead in Game 1, eighth inning. Got swept.

So they're fighting history. After the WKU game on Monday, however, and today's tilt, you gotta say they must be doin' something right. And it always helps to be playing at home.

Drew Pomeranz, the kid who struck out 16 Hilltoppers on Monday night, takes the hill for the Johnny Rebs manana. As we used to say in ol' Mexico City, AMF ....
