    Note to self:

Write something Johnny Dangerously isn't anticipating.

    Nah.

The Rebels are tight, way too tight, in these situations. Hence the propensity for bunting all the time, the fifth-inning collapse, the UVA dogpile.

Virginia's starting pitcher, fifth-year senior Robert Poutier, was sporting a little bit of a postgame shiner in the presser, courtesy of the dogpile.

His quote: "I guess the fifth time's the charm."

I know some Rebel fans working on a fifth right now.

I'm guessing O-U Stadium sounded like church after the fifth inning. If Button doesn't boot that ball yesterday, the Rebels are probably on their way to Omaha.

Not analyzing at all. Just noting that in SOME college baseball circles, dogpiling after the SR is considered to be a jinx. There is no evidence, anechdotal or otherwise, to suggest that dogpilin at a SR is a jinx. But for some reason most teams that have been to the CWS several times, especially several times in row, won't dogpile after the SR.

Of course, there's no evidence, anecdotal or otherwise, that touching the Campbell or Prince of Wales trophies is bad luck. But you never see anyone touching those trophies, do you?

Just a little more background flavor for the CWS, that's all.

And congrats to Virginia. They had the toughest regional/SR road to Omaha, by far.

Tebow, they spray champagne after the friggin' Division Series.

They can dogpile after the super regionals.

Ole Miss never has to worry about the super regional dogpile jinx.

I'd say that's about right, Simon.

As one young aspiring Ole Miss journalist told me yesterday, a thread on his board read:

    "Buckner, Bartman and Button."

A buddy who covers the Rebs full time tells me it's going to eat away at Button, which is a shame. But it happens.

The ump just threw a Southern Miss player, the cleanup hitter, out of the game for no reason. The Southern Miss runner tagged and was thrown out at the plate. The catcher if anything hit the runner harder than the runner hit the catcher. What a horrible call by the umpire, who is scheduled to be in Omaha I believe.. A horrible gut reaction call that he had no business making. A little league player wouldn't have been tossed from a game for what the runner did. Are you supposed to stop running towards home?

Ump said he threw a forearm...weak ass rules from the NCAA like usual. Of course, the Florida catcher and pitcher weren't ejected for standing over the Southern Miss. player and taunting. Stay classy, Florida.

OK, so they say the Southern Miss. kid threw a forearm. Fair enough, I didn't see it in the replay but live action I'll give the umpire the benefit of the doubt. But why isn't the Florida catcher ejected for taunting? He couldn't do that in football or basketball.

And then the assclown announcer said something to the effect of "That's what the super regionals are all about" when they showed the Florida catcher's bush league move.
Fuck Florida. That was a terrible call.

Arkansas isn't a perennial Omaha team, and the club this year went into a tailspin late in league play. They were left for dead. I can see the jubilation.

    micro, no love for hogpile??

I think it was a horrible call based on the emotional factor. The kid crashed into the catcher with the same emotion of the catcher and pitcher standing over the kid and taunting him.

Isn't the Southern Miss player suspended for game 3 as well?

Looked to me like Stevens was just protecting himself from a high tag by the Florida catcher. Still, it's a judgment call and he did come with a high elbow. But if you're going to eject Stevens, then the catcher should have been gone as well for taunting. Classless, but that's Florida. Reminds me why I hate the Gators.
