Agree that both should have been tossed.

USM is turning into the kind of great Omaha story ESPN will run into the ground.

    :)

All I've got to say about Florida is, what goes around comes around.

Dogpile jinx doesn't apply to Southern. They've earned it.

Can't say I'm sorry to see Florida lose. If anything, for firing Andy Lopez, who I always thought was a good coach.

I too thought that UF catcher should have been ejected. What a turd.
But then the thought of him watching all those USM runners cross home plate RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM and end his season just makes me smile. Karma, baby.

Arizona State is six outs from Omaha, up 5-1 against Clemson.

Pat Murphy has a good case for national coach of the year. P Mike Leake and OF Jason Kipnis were the only returning impact players; Kipnis was one of just two position-player starters back, and the overhauled pitching staff is one of the best in the nation.

We also must remember that Florida fired Pat McMahon just two years, that's right -- TWO YEARS -- after coaching the Gatahs to the NCAA championship series against the Shorties in 2005. Yeah they tailed off, but they didn't bottom out. Didn't make the SEC Tournament in 2007, as I recall.

Corky's getting a lot of sj love, which is cool. It is a great story. On his way out. School's first trip to Omaha. Lost their slick-fielding shortstop, Dozier, and a freshman, Vollmuth, steps up and does a great job. They don't have a lot of pitching. But they've obviously got grit.

The truth of it also is they've been playing with house money for a while now. Before the C-USA tournament (all together now, COOOOOOSAAA!), Corky thought they were a long shot for an at-large bid. But they beat Tulane twice, before the Greenies' coach fussed about bein' left out, as well as East Carolina (a super regional team) before losing to Rice. They were fortunate enough to play that tournament at home.

When the field was announced, Corky was kinda glad the Golden Eagles didn't have to go to LSU or Ole Miss. They'd played twice at Ole Miss, twice at LSU, twice at Alabama. Once at home, during Palmer's run. They got sent to Atlanta, beat Georgia Tech in two of three games, and didn't have anything to lose at Florida.

They looked as loose, from what I saw, as the Rebels were tight, particularly after they couldn't get it done in Game 2. Granted I didn't see much, because I was working, but I think they had 12 hits on Saturday night, and half of 'em were for extra bases.

That's winning baseball in the NCAA Tournament.
