I think he was joking. Pour me another one, Blitz.

    Steak,

I'm quite aware he was joking, and I used blue font on my "response."

You old vets think you know everything, eh?

    * Irvine's ranked No. 1 in one poll I saw this week.

That poll freezes when the postseason begins and doesn't update until after everyone's done.

I always liked how Collegiate Baseball ranked the teams in Omaha one through eight, no matter what.

Southern Miss, for instance, checked in at No. 8 last week.

When LSU beat Texas A&M in 1989, when A&M was 55-5 going in, A&M failed to get in the top eight.

    Weak.

    Definitely joking.
    Still like Texas, though.

I'm a day late with this but ...

For the 55th straight year, thanks for playing ACC. Hope you enjoy the nice parting gifts.

If the country stopped at the Rocky Mountains, North Carolina would be a baseball dynasty. It doesn't, and they're a grade B version of the Buffalo Bills, who at least made it to the championship game four years in a row.

Note to UNC: Play a regular-season road game. Play a regular-season road game against a quality opponent. Play any regular-season non-conference game against a quality (SEC, Big 12, Pac-10, Big West) opponent instead of beating up on the Ivy League, the A-10, CAA and Big South.

I've heard that sometimes toughens you up so you're ready to perform in Omaha.

    Thanks for coming, Arkansas.

Interesting move, to my eye, coming back with a big who'd pitched earlier in the week over a guy, Louis Coleman, who'd already baffled Arkansas twice this season. Good to know you have him ready for the if game and Arkansas pitching went into Friday's game on fumes.

Coleman pitched in relief Saturday and started Monday night. You expected to see him pitch today?

Well, he was listed in the game notes as the likely starter. But, based on what you wrote there (forgot about the relief work), then no.

Quite the victory for Texas. 2 HRs in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 soul-crushing win over Arizona State.
