The Rosemont Cubs?

Right now, it's because they have a contract with the Cubs, and they feel the signs would block the view and violate their contract.

There actually is a history of this with Shibe Park in Philly. For years in the early part of the century, fans in neighboring houses would sit on the roofs and watch the games. Then they started charging admission, so Connie Mack built a "spite fence" to block the view.

It's all kind of hazy, because nobody really knows exactly what's in the contract. Legally, they have a right to charge for their view and the Cubs have a right to block their view.

But neither side has been real forthcoming about exactly what the contract does and does not allow.

One idea that's been floated by the rooftop owners regarding the videoboard is the Cubs buying and tearing down the "Budweiser House" on Waveland and building the board there so it wouldn't block anybody's view. I can't imagine the city-required hoops the team would have to jump through to make that happen though.

I realize they're in business with them now but the Cubs should tell the rooftop owners to pound sand. The day the building owners started charging admission and stopped letting residents sit up there for free is the day the Cubs should have told them to fuck off.

Why can't they buy the Budwesier house and put the board on the roof of the Budweiser house?

I'm guessing because house probably couldn't support the weight of the board.

Budweiser house has an ad for United Airlines now, right?

Owner of said house is nuts. Buying it won't be easy.

Deal reached. Ricketts gets what he wanted. 40 night games and a Jumbotron in left field, among other changes, are coming to the North Side.

No shock, the rooftop owners aren't so happy about this. Then again, they do have a deal with the Cubs, and I suspect once they're paid, ahem, a fair settlement, they'll go away.

As part of a contract that expires at the end of 2023, the rooftop clubs give the Cubs 17 percent of their revenue. The rooftop clubs say that contract and the city's Wrigley landmark ordinance prevent the Cubs from putting up signs that block "the uninterrupted sweep of the bleachers."

Lots of "Suck Its" issued here, not just limited to the Chicago city limits.

I suspect Ricketts has better lawyers than the guys who own the rooftops.
