3OF's post was well targeted and certainly not aimed at Piotr.

Whomever that poor soul being targeted was, I hope he'll find the strength to carry on.

Grantland front page now features an ad (Subway) if it didn't yesterday.

At home, I have all the ads blocked on my ancient browser.

    I guess we shall see if Grantland is a $5 2-foot-long or a $10 foot-long

HH's analogy was to a burger, not to McDonald's. He didn't say people just want cheap mass produced garbage. He said they want a burger, not fancy cuisine that highlights the skill of the chef but doesn't really fill anyone up. Some of the best restaurants in the world serve burgers, btw.

Absolutely there are people who read--and eat--to experience the artistry. But I suspect in sports, more people just want to be filled up.

None of that is a criticism of Grantland or the work there thus far. Just addressing the McDonald's commentary.

    6,000-word video game review.

    Now, it's a party!

Can we just switch "burger" with "perfectly cooked steak" and get past the analogy portion of this program?

    I hope it fails, miserably.

Yes. I've also heard his turds are currency in some African countries.

I just sent the link to my brother, a 28-year-old nurse practitioner who loves sports and a good read. He and his friends still tune into a lot of ESPN programs but don't care for "SportsCenter," "Around the Horn," "PTI" or any of the fluffy morning fodder. He seems like someone who falls into the target audience, and I'm curious to see his reaction.

Me? I can't read anything Chris Jones writes without thinking of "The Things That Carried Him," the year-in-review piece he did and the high- and low-lights of "Son of Bold Venture." I can't read anything Simmons touches without a certain level of skepticism. I have preconceived notions of many of the big-name writers on there. I already know them as a reader, and I most likely know how I feel about how their stories, or at least about how they have been written. It's the names I don't know that intrigue me.
