For this alone, I shall pledge my everlasting devotion to Grantland:

Pierce: It was an extraordinary liquid event. This is when I was hooked up with Van McKenzie and things were getting very liquid, and they put up, on one of the big screens in the bar, the original promotional film they sent to advertisers before we launched. Frank was on it. And Peter Price. And then Mike Lupica came on and I vividly remember getting up on a stool and shouting, "Give us Barabbas!" I'll never forget it. McKenzie put his hand on my shoulder and said, "Ya know, there are a lot of nutty people in this business. But you're crazy."

Buckley: Lupica pops up and everybody's throwing beer cans at it. It was like that scene in Animal House when Flounder's picture goes up on the screen in the frat house.

Thanks for trying to actually make a point that time, 3OF. Next question ...

You meant in addition to Katie Baker and Molly Lambert and Colson Whitehead and Patrice Evans, right?

Patrice Evans, who's better known as the Assimilated Negro, writes for the site. I believe he's black.

and I was beat to the punch.

Let's hear it, Fart. "Hmm. Guess I was wrong."

    Let's hear it.

Did The National feature its big Main Event stories on Fridays? (Have not read either of The National stories yet today, so that might have been mentioned in there.) If so, is Grantland going to save its top stories for Fridays? Today looks pretty good, with The National oral history, the Charlie Pierce column and Wright Thompson on Elaine's.

Somebody cited the names of four people- people that most have never heard of- be real honest with yourselves.
One guy doesn't even know if he's black or not, but "believes" that he is. Haha.
All the pieces complimented on this thread were written by white guys- old, white guys.
    I'm not wrong on that.

and the problem with that is what?

You said they had no minorities or women, it was shown you were talking out your ass and now you're moving the goal posts.

His review of the Dead Sea Scrolls was, if nothing else, straight to the point.

Wright Thompson's column on Elaine's was very enjoyable.

That oral history of the National was fan-fucking-tastic.

That style of interlocking grafs that it is done in, I think, is the style that is used in oral histories. Seems like the SNL book was the same way.
