Ad hominem is an art, my little pear shaped friend.
You really do appear to fail on all fronts.

If you are scoring at home Thompson used the "I" 64 times, with an impressive 20 in the first 3 paragraphs.

He got off to a fast start with 11 "I's " alone in first graff. ( 4 in first sentence)

At this pace they should change the name on the place to GrantlInd

This isn't the first time a media company has thrown a bunch of money at a bunch of sports journalists in order to launch an online venture. It wouldn't be the first to fail, and it wouldn't be the first to succeed.

I don't think this is anything like aol sports, cbssportsline, yahoo sports or the others.

I'm not so sure, tho, that this would be a tide that raises all ships. Probably just more work for those with the big names who are already getting contracts and the space. With the economic exigencies requiring a big, sustained hit out of the gate, I doubt Simmons will be inclined to give a bunch of unknowns much of a shot. And realistically, stuff like Grantland won't proliferate in the way short-story periodicals have.

Also, those who say, "Oh, you're just jealous" are as full of it as those who say, "Simmons sucks, so this sucks." Let's judge the thing on merit

Are all of the writers doing this on the side like Jones & Pierce or have some been hired on full time for the project?

Several are full-time. Baker, I believe. Abrams. It seems like it will basically be Klosterman's full-time gig.

The site launched last month with two preview pieces.

One by Molly Lambert. One by Katie Baker.

Good point. Here's hoping Grantland takes some chances personnel-wise a shot in a year or so, once the site is in full steam. That takes more stones than letting the Thompsons and Klostermans take a new tack on a story. And that's nothing against them; I'm just kind of ready for some fresh voices.
