Criticism imitating art: that Poynter piece was overlong and tough to get through.

Just read the Poynter thing. God, how utterly pointless. (Or Poyntless, I suppose.)

And if I'm Simmons or anyone else involved with Grantland I'm absolutely pissed at ESPN.com for running that. If there's a legit journalistic issue with something, sure. But to run a critique, just to say "eh, some of the writing was meandering and lacked focus"? Screw that. They expressly forbid any of their talent from ever publicly criticizing anyone or anything connected to ESPN, but then publish a third party's criticism of their work?

While I don't disagree that the criticism lacked teeth, ESPN can't censor an ombudsman or what's the point of an ombudsman? Then again, since Le Anne Schreiber, what has been the point of the ESPN ombudsman?

A wasteland, before AND after Schreiber, who set a very high bar as the Gold Standard.

    Hmmm. There are some problems.

I hit grantland.com, and I get a generic domain page.

The site's definitely down. Perhaps the Go Daddy registration wasn't renewed.
