This is a shining example of everything I hate about "high-end" journalism. It should have been written in Latin. No, make that Mandarin.

While Grantland is getting the publicity and big names writing for it, Yahoo's The Post Game actually already is what Grantland wishes it could be -- interesting perspectives on stories that have kind of left our consciousness. Right now they have a story about what Greg Anderson (Bonds' trainer) is doing now, what happens to a failed MLB prospect, and an article defending LeBron (sure to be popular here). I believe they also published the story about Voros McCracken and his DIPS theory. Their site is much busier than Grantland, which is a drawback. Grantland is more essay-driven. Not that I don't like it, but it's interesting how The Post Game arrived with little fanfare and Grantland is surviving on ESPN hype so far.

The Post Game also had a fantastic Jeff Passan story about Jose Bautista last week.

As I mentioned on an earlier post on this thread: I like the footnote style but in small doses. David Foster Wallace did them brilliantly at times and I'm fine with an homage to that once in awhile. But it has to work. Having almost everyone on this site doing that is nuts -- and a bit annoying.

    Yes.

I have not read any of their Byliner Originals, but the fact that they report to have more than 30,000 archived stories -- including about eight by Ernest Hemingway from the late 1910s and early 1920s when he worked as a reporter at The Kansas City Star and The Toronto Star -- is remarkable. I imagine I will spend many lost hours on that site now, just going back and reading stories by favorite writers that I would have otherwise never knew existed. An incredible resource.

Maybe I need to get out more.

This was the first I had ever heard of "The Post Game."

That is a hell of a site. Thanks for the public service.
