Good lord, how could you even call that high-end journalism? That would get spiked at a weekly. And Grantland can't keep doing this; that is, thinking anyone who made a name first and foremost in the new media (e.g., the Sportatorialist) has some credibility to contribute to a Web site that has literary aspirations. That post was basement-blogger quality.

Wallace's notes made me realize that it is, indeed, possible to be so smart that your brain goes haywire.

It was easy to tell that they were recitations from his own mind, and it was just the most minute shit I've ever read. I read every word and enjoyed them, but my dear lord how did he fit all that in his brain?

After reading and howling through Draft Diary XV, I come to realize I really, honestly enjoy Simmons' columns.

I know that either makes me just plain wrong, or five years late to the party, or both, depending on the reader.

It makes you five years late to being wrong.

As somebody who admittedly is probably now overly closed-minded on the subject, this would be my take.

Did we really need THREE stories/columns previewing what was probably the least-interesting NBA draft in history?

I'd give 'em that if somebody would come up with a good Riggleman piece.

Of course, if a manager falls outside the AL East, does he make a sound? ;)

See, this brings up a question I've been pondering about this site's universal appeal. Hey, maybe they don't need the appeal to be "universal."

But -- like a lot of big media, I suppose -- is this site going to remain for the most part a very East Coast-centric place, where people from the South or the Midwest or California are often going to have a lot fewer things of interest to read?

Not none -- but a lot fewer.

Looking through the past few days, it would seem that's the way they're leaning, but I could be wrong.

There have already been more baseball pieces about the Orioles than anything west of the big river.

To my knowledge, no one there has touched the Dodgers shitshow, which is as ripe for "cultural examination" as anything.

And three more NBA draft stories today ...

It's like the NBA draft just happened or something.

I would like to see the traffic breakdown of Simmons/non-Simmons traffic on that site. I would bet he gets more than half on his own.
